Default Cruise control

I need help trying to figure out what is wrong with my cruise control unit. I have to do a 14+ hour drive at somepoint this week and I can't figure out what is wrong with it. So any ideas, suggestions, anyone who has had their cruise control go caput, and found a fix...places to look, ect would be appreciated. Also if anyone has installed the cruise control in their car, and have a copy of the instructions on their computer that they could send me that would be great as well.

My cruise contol light does go on. However the cruise wont engage.
The only thing that was done to the car inbetween the last time I used it and the time I noticed that it had gone wrong was that I took my car to a Subaru dealership to have the oil changed.

The only other things that are wrong with my car at the moment. The AC was recharged and found to be leaking from the o-rings. However this was done after my cruise stopped working.
I had my clutch replace and somehow the pivot arm (I think thats what it is) got bent. This causes my clutch pedal to vibrate a lot.

edit: Looking through back posts..

If you have a 5MT, take a look at the clutch pedal. On my OBS, there's a white plastic plug attached to the clutch pedal arm that actuates the cruise cut-off swith on the clutch (push in the clutch, cruise turns off). If this part is missing, the dashboard switch turns on, but cruise will not work. Give it a look.

Anyone know if this applies to my 97 impreza. If so what does it look like?

Hey, that happened to my OBS. Yes, it could be the same problem with your Impreza.

Take a look at the clutch pedal. About halfway up you'll find the plug thingy. I believe it's white. If it's broken or missing, your cruise won't engage because of the switch there. If you need a new one, it's only about $2 or $3.

Other possibilites are loose vacuum hose or bad fuse.

I can't see anything like that on mine.
Do you have the part number because I got quoted $40 for the part.

Well I fixed it (kinda).

After weeks of messing around with the hoses. Checking looking, testing wires ect. It turns out I was missing the little plug thing that fills in the hole on the clutch pedal. I stuffed in a bolt and took a quick drive to test it out, and my cruise control works. Yeah.
I would still love to know what the part is that fits in there. The local subaru garages don't know what part it is. Then again I was trying to describe it to them on the phone.
If anyone does know the part number, and would like to tell me that would be great.

Gareth

Dennis/Bluesubie thanks for your help. You and OBSFAN lead me strait to the real problem. I would never have found it without your help

I'd call some junk yards and see if they have any impreza's, then go see if they have it or not. If they do, get it off and take it, if not, then it's not suppose to be there. just my .02

Glad I could help.

Try Subaruparts.com

I used an Outback Sport on the search I did, but the it's the same. I'm not exactly sure which part it is, but I think it's one of the stoppers. That seems to be close to the price that I paid. For US$3.48, you could just order all three.

My dealer parts guy knew exactly what it was.

Sorry I didn't catch your post until today...

Exact same thing happened to my friends OBS. He rigged up some kind of fix like you did. Shortly after that, the same part on my car broke. I went to Webster Groves Subaru and ordered the part. When I found out they were so cheap, (a couple bucks) I ordered extra.

email me at [email protected] if you are still in STL and need one quick, or I can check the part number for you.

Steve.

Cheers Steve, ahh the WRC fan. Putting it all together now.
I've just gotten back into Saint Louis, and I bought the part from Webster Groves Subaru...
Part # 36036AC010
Name: Stopper
List price: $3:18
They sold it to me for $1.44

Hope that helps anyone who has this problem in the future.
Cheers

Funny, my cruise control wasn't working and was driving me crazy trying to figure out what it was. As soon as I read this post, I realized what that little white piece of broken plastic was on my floor. All I had to do was fill the hole where the plug was with a small nut and bolt, and everything was fixed.

Who says this forum is useless J/K Thanks for the advice.

On the lever or arm that the brake pedal is attached to, find a small hole. I plugged the hole with a screw. By filling the hole you will see it pushes in a button once you let the clutch pedal and arm all the way out... Away from the floor. Hope this helps. Sorry no pics available, I no longer have my wrx. I drive an xt now. Unfortunately Subaru doesn't offer it with a MT. ***128560;
