Yes and no. Obviously if you have 6 there will be some differences;however, I believe that it shares a few gears with the wrx. I would have to check cars101.com to see. Also note that I am talking about the spec b and not the BM platform, which shares again some gears but I don't think is pnp with gr imprezas.

Kinda depends on your setup as well. On a typical stage 2 setup, you'll see a significant difference in 4/5 gear pulls. I'll usually just ride my 4th pull until about 6k, then shift into 5th to get a decent pull there for a bit. But as stated before, your 5th pull will be pretty drawn out after about 120mph since its your last gear. It doesn't seem odd to me at all, but maybe that's just my personal opinion.

I believe there are tons of treads about how air-starved our cars are at high rpms.

it's so that when your coolant gets too hot it sets of the CEL. I think that is it from what I've read. Their are some threads that have photo copies of the letter, it's only issued to certain states.

Ok on second though, what I was referring to initially wasn't really how hard the car pulled in 4th/5th gear. I think I meant that the ratio of vehicle speed vs engine RPMs is higher in 4th than it is in 5th, which seems to go against the idea of lower gears being shorter and higher gears being longer.

On a side note, how fast have people got their Subies to go top speed wise? I know they aren't designed for high speed but I'm just curious.

if you are stage 1 or 2 you really shouldn't be going wot at low rpms in 4th and 5th...bad for business...

also they can probably go like 150 something...im not gonna check

08 can do at least 150...looks like you will run out of gearing somewhere in the 160s

Sidenote, since this issue only affects 2011+ cars, I'm really glad we have a 2011+ discussion thread.

Lost track of the thread for a little bit but I came back to read these posts. Thanks nightdown fox and PearlRex11, and anyone else that helped with figuring out this ECU situation. I have been quite lazy and I haven't received the update yet, but I will get it done one of these days. Hopefully when I go stage2 this won't even be an issue anymore.

On the gd's, they were too low for standard struts. I never thought the ride was poor until I rode on better set-ups...then I realized it wasn't much good for anything but pictures. It looks great, doesn't ride well though.

Dollar for dollar the entry level coil overs are better and a little cheaper when you are looking at sprigs/camber plates/struts.

I had fortune auto coilovers on my car for about 2 weeks, I took them off and sold them. I now have Swifts and stock struts, would prefer to add koni inserts as well but not yet. I'm much happier with just springs for now. If you go with coilovers I would suggest nothing lower than 7k front 8K rear. My 7k f 6k r was too soft and bouncy.

coilovers are a worse choice for a DD that is going to rack up lots of miles. they need to be rebuilt more often than people think.

idk if you drive 20k a year you could be looking at a rebuild in 3 years or so.

60 k miles on aftermarket springs probably would be just as bad to struts. Sounds like it might depend on the driver/driving style/road types.

yeah but its a hassle to rebuild coils. you have to send them out and wait...its probably just as expensive as replacing konis. I'm not suggesting sticking with oem struts, but I think konis and drop springs are better and cheaper to replace when they blow or wear out. It also depends on the company.

I know one time I bought my friend's tein ss-p's for around $400 thinking I could just get them rebuilt if there was an issue. It ended up costing almost $800 and I believe when all was said and done the price ended up maybe $50 shy of brand new coils. You also need suspension to drive on while you are waiting or another car. For a person who pays to have mods installed(lol) the cost labor would be insane. On the other hand most people around here with coils probably don't even keep their car long enough to blow them or they will just drive on blown coils like my stupid friend and not notice..lol. It also depends what brand of coilovers they are... The other issue with coils is they don't really handle winter weather as well as normal shocks..although I guess you can cover them with those bag things.

I only know about bc coil overs. Less than 100 for a new shock tube. Two hours in my garage and maybe 3 beers.... I don't know how much koni's cost...but $100 is pretty cheap and beer is included.

I had BCs last summer, they were too harsh on the stiffer settings and I was paranoid about the noise they made when softer. I put my stock suspension back on in the fall and sold them. I'm going to be autocrossing as much as I can this summer. Cobb says they work with the stock struts apart from '08 and a local guy is selling them for a good deal. My other option is STi springs.

As I recall Cobb didn't do anything different other than compliant springs for gr struts. There are plenty of treads about how poorly the Cobb springs handle... The problem is that they ride too low and the car nearly sits on the bump stops. Do your research.

I think Cobb springs are just name brand and overall junk. I had a set on some STI springs that I carried up from the Lower 48 when I bought my Forester. They were all rusted and stuff. I sold them to a local guy that I only saw like once around town. Anyways, my research showed me that overall they're only worth it if you can get them super cheap and have money to burn.

Our cars are designed to practically ride on the bump stops. The Cobb springs are "probably" manufactured by an outside company like the RCE springs are.

I couldn't be happier with the swift sport springs on mine. Firmed it up just a bit and 3/4" drop, exactly what I wanted. Second choice would have been rce black, after looking into them I felt the Swifts were higher quality. Just my opinion.
