Default So what the hell is a P1101 "Neutral Position Switch Circuit Malfunction (M/T)"???

Had my CEL checked and it read: P1101 "Neutral Position Switch Circuit Malfunction (M/T)"

Soooo...what does that mean? Emission time is comming up and I needs to get it fixed.

i dunno but i threw the same code after i did my swap. Check to see if you are leaking any trans fluid from around the switch, i have a feeling the switches go bad internally and actually cause the trans to leak. I have to look into fixing mine but with the swap it's a P0851

Not really much on this board about that code. Seems to be a rare one. I'd bet it's just a bad sensor or maybe a loose connector.

Start driving, set your cruise control, and shift into neutral (when you press the clutch in, the cruise control will disengage - but should still be on) Now try to resume cruise control. This should not work. If it does, there's a problem with your neutral position switch.

Mine broke once and then magically started working again.

And I am 99% sure they're impossible to replace without dropping the transmission. At least on the 6 speed.

Did you have a remote start installed? If so, maybe some bad wiring there wore through and pulled it out of a switch or something.

I think you can pass OBD-II tests with that code thrown, though... it has nothing to do with emissions and all those tests should be passed. That is unless they decided that they don't even want to hook up any car with a CEL period (which IMO is just wrong since a CEL can be thrown for non-emissions related items).

That's Illinois for you. From what I remember, they won't even bother if they see the light on.

BTW...I did have a Remote start installed and I guess it makes sense since the gear shift safety has failed in the past months.....I umm...found my car on the front lawn after trying to remote start it one time.

if there are any codes stored the vehicle is rejected, which as you personally said is rediculous since the code is a non-emissions efecting componet

Yup, sounds like you need to find/replace that switch. Now for two reasons... emissions, and keeping your car off your lawn.
