Toyota guy here, going to try out Subaru!
Hey guys,
In an attempt to keep my beloved Toyota Tacoma from rusting out in the winter and to keep the miles off her, I am looking for a beater car, which brings me to this forum. I want something AWD, 5 speed, that gets good mileage and that can carry a good amount of crap around, so I am looking at a 1998 Subaru Impreza Sport Wagon 5 speed with the 2.2L. It has 204K on it!! I know this is a lot of mileage but what I hear from my Subaru friends is that the 2.2 is "bulletproof". Is this true? Car appears to be mostly rust free which is also a must. Guy is asking $2950, this seems high, i'd like to get him down to around $2200. Is that fair? What are some things to watch out for on these motors/cars? Any other advice would be appreciated. Located in Eastern PA if that matters. *before you ask "why don't you just drive the Tacoma in the winter?" That's because it's supercharged with the TRD supercharger, pushing 11psi @280 RWHP and 309 TRQ. It has seen a lot of mileage this year and i'd like to keep it as nice as possible. Thanks, --Brian |
