Very nice, I hope to join you in the not too distant future. Battery in the trunk/boot? How well does the accessory belt reroute work without the A/C pulley? Any slippage or other issues?

zero issues whatsoever. battery is mounted under the passenger seat. it's a deka 15L mounted on its side.

remaining things to sort with my swap:

temp gauge remains at max constantly
fuel gauge remains at min constantly
speedo doesn't work
radio aerial was removed in the merge - though this is a piss easy fix from what i'm told.

and for some reason after doing a change of all 4 brakes, a full bleed etc etc i need to pump them to get decent pedal travel. they'll still be firm on the first push but the pedal is a looong way down. second pump it's back up to a very short push before it goes hard.

also want to paint the front calipers yellow sometime, and for some reason i don't seem to have the camber on my kw's i did before. will check the bolts when i get the wheels off to paint the calipers.

also need to heatwrap the headers and get them welded up to my 2.5 cat/midpipe, and buy another plastic undertray.

Where are the driving videos, man?! We don't need no stinking videos from old black-and-white movies, we need some driving clips!

All of the parts I ordered two weeks back are here, but I spent last weekend out of town, so no progress to report. I should be able to make good progress (I hope) this weekend.

i can only take it for small thrashes a couple hundred metres from my house at the moment. i broke the little clip that keeps the brake light switch in, so i don't have any brake lights!

also did a massive bleed of the brakes using most of a bottle when i swapped all the calipers but you'd never think it after trying to use them. huge pedal travel + mushy feel. ridiculous. going to have another crack at it once i've got the other niggles sorted out.

Made some progress yesterday evening. Got the exhaust all bolted up. Still need to attach a couple of the hangers, but I need to jack the rear of the car up to get access to those, so that'll wait for now.

Here are the band style clamps around the slip-fit pipe extension on the passenger side header leg. The U-bolt sandwiched in between is one of those generic rubber strap exhaust hangers going up to where the stock exhaust hanger bolts to the side of the transmission. When I take the car to get all of these exhaust modifications finalized, I'll have them put a tab on the header so the stock hanger (sitting on the ground in the picture) can be used.

I briefly test fit the radiator and found I'll have to do a little clearancing. My original radiator is a cross-flow, whereas this one is down-flow (did all of the Subarus shift to down-flow radiators in the early 2000s?). As a result, the lower hose connection actually protrudes a bit from the bottom of the radiator (rather than being off to the side in the end tank). My lower radiator support is flat, so I'll have to cut out some sheet metal with the Dremel to allow the radiator to drop into position - I'll get that taken care of this weekend. Of course, stupid me took the picture with the old radiator backwards, so you can't actually compare where the hose connections are, but just use your imagination!

I also want to clean up some wiring in the front of the engine bay before I mount the condenser and radiator for good.

Does anyone have a good source for a set of stock EZ30R exhaust manifolds? My junkyard motor didn't come with any.

There have to be some out there somewhere, because I see plenty of engines for sale on Ebay and they never have the manifolds on 'em! But the only listings I've ever seen are for new OEM replacement ones that are like $450+ per side.

I have a build thread here for a mid engined car with EZ30R - http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2494976

Got the headers from Outfront Motorsports http://www.outfrontmotorsports.com/exhaust_systems.htm

They were very reasonable - forget price, but much less than OEM and much lighter, since the OEM has an outer wall - for sound insulation I guess.

Looked around. Selling harness and ECU for $200 plus shipping. PM if interested.

Quick 40 second vid of the H6...just a quck rigidity test for the 4ft egomount but at least a chance to hear it. Was leaving my neighborhood so only gave it stick after passing the last houses...2nd into 3rd.

You mainly hear the motor, however the exhaust is OBX headers to GT500 high-flow cat, to 2 ft resonator, to WRX/STI spec Stromung twin tip.

Not too worried about that one.......unless I planned on hitting someone.

GoPro and movie production companies purchase them from me for use on public roads where they can't run full vehicle rigs.

Geez man...yes, I get your point.

I also get that every post I've posted you have something negative to say about it...whether it be my air intake, my swap, my camera mounts...I get it...and I don't care.

This is probably a really dumb question but I'm reading through here and I'm curious and I haven't seen it yet. What are the pros of putting in an H6 instead of building say a 2.0L or 2.5L EJ motor? Other than all of the work what are the cons?

clearly you don't. you don't see anything wrong with driving around on public roads with a giant 4ft long steel skewer on the front of your car. that's what you're not getting. apparently it's ok if someone else has done it? dear god in heaven i'm glad you don't live near me/my family with that f**king thing driving around. first thing i would do is call the cops and have them waiting for you when you got back. i can only imagine the fine you'd receive if you got booked for that thing and with good bloody reason. wake the f**k up to what you are doing.

Somebody needs to chill out.

It's a cool camera mount, and a cool angle for the video.
You post a lethal danger to society every time you drive on the open road as well by not choosing to drive a $90k Mercedes with all the latest safety tech.
I didn't see anything reckless in the video. Do you call the cops every time a construction vehicle has a 2x4 extending past the end of their bed? Or a 12' ladder on the roof?

Go chill out, and if you cannot share anything constructive, go join a Prius forum.

Just think, if you did hit someone, no one would believe them.

"I just got hit by a 2-door Subaru Impreza, with a 6 cylinder, and his go-pro speared me in the chest!"

See? Story would sound too unreal, so no worries driving around with that thing lol.

That is quite possibly the dumbest rant I've ever read in my life. Maybe down in NZ they don't have the rather obvious examples that slow03 mentioned? Or maybe the problem is that RallyGuy2k didn't put a red rag or flag on the camera mount (like one would do on an overhanging ladder or 2x4), which would render the camera mount completely safe (just like it does for ladders and 2x4s)?

Thanks guys....and Patrick, actually the red flag idea is a pretty damn good one...or red paint at the end.

Vicious...Keep in mind these 4 ft mounts are not usually used on the streets, they're used in autox, rallyx, and film sets. This vid was a test...that's why it was only 30-40 seconds of driving...not excessive driving around at speed for long periods of time. Actually I thought I'd catch crap for the vid not being long enough.
However we've used them with the permission and in front of the LA police dept, Houston police dept, etc. They're stance on them is if someone gets hit at 25mph then they're going to get hurt no matter what, not the aluminum boom. These have been around for the last 4 years with sales from the US to Australia and haven't had a single problem or crash...even the 4 footers are on xgames FMX bikes doing backflips, etc.

Shiplemn...
I'm sure we all have different anwers to your question...but for me its was for a couple...
1. Wanted something different than the normal turbo swap.
2. Wanted nice increase of power in a stock-ish motor yet still have the reliability of an Outback.
3 I'm weird.

As far as why I chose the EZ30 over the EZ30R/EZ36R or EG33...I like all three...love the design of the EG33...all of it. However I couldn't get a hold of a low mileage one. The R motors are nice...I have one in my late model Outback LLBean and love it...plus it's tuneable. But the drive by wire and immobilizer can be a headache for putting in a GC. Obviously not impossible, but didn't wanna deal with it.
