Default whos wired a STi switch to a Vivid Racing Intercooler spray kit?

has anyone used a STi ICWS switch to the waterspray kit Vivid Racing sells.
The wiring consists of 3 wires, yet the back of the STi button has a terminal for a harness that will accept the 5 prongs located within. I'm assuming that the other 2 prongs are for the light in the switch. Has anyone done this with or w/o the harness that would be in an STi? How? Where did you find the harness????

someone with a STi switch hooked up without using a plug in harness off of it must be out there. If not, where did you find the harness and wires that plug in behind the switch?

Are there any terminal numbers on teh switch? If you see something like 85, 86, 15 or 30 then itll be pretty easy to look up which pins are what.

Im not sure I follow you. Do you mean ecu pins, because I dont have an sti? Do you mean pins for the pump harness? The back of the switch has a white piece, and there is a yellow wire spaded onto one pin and a black spaded onto the other. Im guessing the black is the ground, what do I ground it to on the switch board? The yellow is a power switch, Im assuming it must be connected with pump somehow?

If you use a factory pump, you can just plug the existing unused harness into the pump and run a hose to your nozzles. That's everything needed underhood. For the switch wiring, tap into the blue/black wire in the wiper stalk on the steering column. Run that wire to the switch.

As for the illumination of the switch:

Then connect abouit 6 in. of wire to pins 2 & 6 on that wiring diagram I posted the link to earlier using tabs/solder. Then use the wire taps to connect the wire off pin #2 to the violet wire, and the wire off #6 to the ORANGE/WHITE STRIPE wire of the cruise or fog light wires. The diagram says Yellow/green but that is wrong, as I tried it but then went back and checked my service manual to find it was the Or/W.

Here's a better/easier way to wire the switch. Make pins 1 & 2 ground. A single 1/4" female spade connector will fit over both pins, then you run a single ground wire to any chassis grounding point under the dash.

Pin 6 run it to the violet wire of the foglight harness. (this way you only need to splice one wire in the harness)

Pin 3 goes to the pump.

Pin 3 & 6: A .110" (or around that width) female spade connectors fit the pins. A place like Radio Shack may not carry them, you may have to find a real electronic store. I have plenty extras

Our windshield washer(s) pumps are always hot, when you press the washer switch it connects the circuit to ground. I wired the sprayer the same way.

1. (+) is the always hot wire for one of the windshield washer pump(s).
2. (+) wire goes to the (+) sprayer pump connection.
3. (-) of the sprayer pump wire goes to pin 3 of the sti switch.

Wiring this way the sti switch lamp won't dim like your instrument panel lights do, but why would you want to dim an already dim lamp?

But do we? What's so difficult about pushing 3 spade connectors on a terminal, one minute-two if you're slow. The hardest part was fishing a single wire through the firewall. It took me more time to feed that #%@* wire through were "I wanted it to go" than to wire the whole system even with the boost pressure switch.

Finding the proper spade terminals to fit for one. There's three different thicknesses of spade terminals available for that terminal size - and guess what, the ones used on the switch are the least common. You can push any of the three onto the switch, but the proper terminals work best.

I had no problem finding them, if anybody needs some-I have plenty.

So you haven't said where you found the connector, where we can find it, and the cost. I'm trying to be helpfull on a DIY, do the same and inform us.

You can't buy the proper connectors and terminals at the corner store, PepBoys, Canadian Tire, RadioShack or even an electronics distributor.

You have to buy a thousand and 5000 terminals - factory minimums and 8-12 week lead times and 800USD for parts plus shipping, duties, brokerage - if you want to do it yourself, or send me an email and I'll enable you to make your install look professional.

I have components for most of the Subaru connectors on the car - I'm the only one other than a major car company that has bought these..... all for the sake of enabling those that want to do it right.

I can't do PM from work.

Are you on drugs, I bought a box of 50 from a local mom and pop electronic store. You're posting misinformation.

I have no problem using the stock subaru part, so how much are you selling them for? I would rather use the stock connector. Just post an amount you want for them so we all will know.

Proper = using the terminals and housings designed by the manufacturer to mate with the terminals and housing on the switch.

You can't get the proper connectors anywhere but overseas. You can get something to work at RS or an electronics shop and they will do in a pinch or for a DIY job where coin is an object. Remember there's three different thicknesses of terminals when sourcing your terminals though. Remember to get fully insulated, not just the funnel.
Hell, you can buy something big, grind it down, squish it and it would work too... but I believe in doing it properly.
I had to buy a thousand housings for 800 dollars. I expect to sell no more than 100, so to recoup my cost, they'd be 8 bux plus shipping. Including a handful of terminals (since I have 5000 of them).

Now that we know how to wire the switch, how do we wire the pump? Wire from spaded pin three goes to the pump according to the instructions above. If using the STi pump, which one is that on the pump, I dont have that infront of me but how will I know which one is positive, and I assume since its incoming power it is connected to the positive terminal on the pump, correct?

Sorry if I sound electrically moronic, i dont take circuits till next semester and all i know about electric wiring is V= IR and Parallel vs Series circuits.

Also note that the STi system goes through a relay (the switch might not be able to handle the current required by the pump without degrading over time)

on that diagram it looks like v (violet) is the illumination power, YR (yellow-red) is switched +12V, RW (red-white) is the trigger for the relay, and L is power from the relay to the pump.
