Default Primitive skidplate and stock splash protection

I just installed a primitive skidplate, but noticed it leaves the sides of the engine by the wheel wells exposed to water, road salt, debris, etc.

Has anyone trimmed their stock skidplate/splashguard so that it will fit around (or inside) the primitive plate to provide side splash protection?

If so, give me instructions before I whip out my dremel and start carving the stock skidplate like a thanksgiving turkey, trial-and-error style....thanks!

BTW - the 3/16" primitive plate is the real deal. I like it.

Probably not necessary - even with skid plate or splash guard all sorts of wetness can get in there. The skid plate just really protects against hard stuff, that the splash guard does not. I got a Beatrush skid plate because of my friends gravel driveway upstate. Came home and changed the oil and see a nice big dent in the oil pan, even with a splash guard. Remember you also want heat to escape so you do not want to button up the whole thing anyway.

I'd agree with you if I lived on pavement, which is true for 90% of people I suspect. I live on a dirt road that is covered in sand and ice-melt in the winter/spring. The sides of my stock splashguard are covered in brown gunk. If the side-splash protection wasn't there, all that corrosive brown stuff would be on my engine and exhaust manifold.

I hear you on leaving some space for air exchange. I noticed the front of the primitive plate isn't airtight like the stock skidplate. This leaves room for ample front-to-back airflow.
