Please help transmission questions
Hello,
I am new to this forum. I just came from a test drive of the new WRX and I was blown away at the performance and handling of the car. Which brings me to my question. I am building a replica Lamborghini chassis and would like to use the Subaru engine and transmission, since this is a mid engine set up it would mean one of three things. 1. Can the 4wd drive transmission be switched to make the drive wheels go in the opposite direction? 2. Can a 2wd drive from an earlier Subaru match up to a newer engine? 3. Can you disconnect the rear wheel drive and change it into just a front wheel transmission with 100% of the power going to the front wheels of the transmission. The ideal placement would be putting the engine at the rear of the car and the transmission in front of the engine my second option is to put the transmission at the back of the car and the engine in front of the transmission. If anyone could either point me in the right direction or recommend a few web sites for me to look at it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you....

1)you won't be a mid engine if the tranny has to run backwards, you would then a be a rear engine
2)for mid engine depending on orientation you would want the fwd tranny (yes it matches up so long aas the engine it is off of is and EJ series) 3) yes you can weld up the center diff to make it drive fwd or rwd |

Thank you.
My 1st question about swithing the transmission to run in the oposite direction, is it possible? Because if it is, I could then put the engine at the very back of the car and the transmission in front of it just like lamborghini and ferrari. the second reason is that if I could put the engine at the very back of the car I may be able to make it and AWD kit... which would be awsome... But atleast I can put the transmission at the back and use only the 2WD section of the transmission or a 2wd transmission at least it is possible to use the Subaru driveline in the kit.. that is what I wanted. |

a much better solution would be to buy an adapter plate and use a porsch or VW transaxel ala the sand rail guys

Consider a Toyota MR2 engine and tranny too if you are going 2wd.
