Yeah. It's not too big of a crack so I'm just going to repair it myself with the $30 crack repair kit and live with it too.

I would also like some input as to whether getting the lip would be worth it just as a preventative measure for this alone. My only concern is that it makes the bumper that much lower and easier to hit in the first place. I also like the look of the way the stock bumper protrudes out on the sides, and the lip takes that away and makes the whole thing flat on the bottom.

Don't mean to thread jack but if anyone near Indianapolis has a cracked bumper, that they're going to replace and get rid of the old, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands.
call me crazy but I'm wanting to try and mod my 09 front bumper with some of the 11 design, haven't really enjoyed any of the after-market items i've seen, and definitely not the prices. I have a dark gray WRX, but the color doesn't matter, as after doing all the work it'll have to be painted anyway. Shoot me a PM. I would come pick it up. |

I did that on my front bumper with the total cost of: $560 $260 - Bumper unpainted from dealer $300 - Paint and installation of new bumper at a local body shop I plan on doing this same thing to replace my cracked rear bumper now too. |

The reason everyone's is cracking in the same place is because that is a stress point, the protrusion in the bumper puts leverage on the bumper there. Im sure in molding, that's a thin area, too.
It's not really SOA's issue. No matter how light the hit/tap/scrape was, you cant deny that was what caused your crack. |

Hey guys.. We need to get SOA's attention here, because this just isn't right! Most of us have less than a few thousand miles on our cars, and this just shouldn't happening.. I look at this as a design flaw, and it needs to be addressed ASAP!
Do you know how many curbs, parking barriers, steep driveways, etc I've scraped in past cars? Way too many to count. And yet I've never had a problem, because the bumpers were correctly designed to take some level of "abuse". Last week, I blogged about my '11 WRX. Among other things, I wrote about the bumper cracking issue, and even included a link to this thread. To my surprise, my server logs showed quite a few visitors originating from SOA! So if enough people leave comments about their situations, maybe it'll get seen by the right person who can do something for us.. I realize it's a shot in the dark, but it certainly can't hurt! |

Yeah I drove my 2001 S-10 Xtreme until about 2007 when one too many parking barriers FINALLY put a split right down the bottom of the front airdam that they came with. This does seem like a poor quality part that might need to be recalled.
I will also mention that I did pull out of a parking lot where I rubbed slightly to form a 2 x 2 scrape in about the exact location where these cracks are on the underside and I didn't get the crack. I might perform that reinforcement job. I think I can manage that one. This was after a repair using a J B Quick Weld type bumper stuff made by Bondo. It was my first and so far only attempt at body work!! Jeez! It didn't hold BTW. :riceisrightlosinghorn:: Last edited by echardcore; 04-11-2011 at 11:24 PM. |

my 2011 sti bumper is cracked too! So sad The front driver's side just like pictures in here. ALSO, now I noticed the front passanger side was out of place like someone else posted but I was able to pop it back in pretty easily EXCEPT now the passanger side quarter panel is not flush where it meets the headlight, and the hood does not look lined up properly! What the hell is going on?? I tapped a lady with only the speed of slowly letting out the clutch to make a right hand turn before I noticed she didn't take off like I thought she did.
Are our cars really made this cheap?!? Out of place headlight, hood, and quarter panel all from a <3mph bump??? It's very disheartening. |

Has anyone contacted SOA about this issue?

Another one bites the dust! I lightly scraped the front bumper on an incline and it cracked on the the bottom on the drivers side.( where the grommet hole is) I only have 3500 miles. I'm going to try the "epoxy fix" before it spreads.

Just had a blown out truck tire go underneath the length of my '10 WRX at 70 MPH. Cracked underneath/bottom of the front bumper right in the middle (initial impact point). It's still completely in tact and the spot where it cracked can probably be snapped back into place. I thought it ripped the entire bottom of the car up. I'm amazed it only macked up the bumper. Body shop on Thursday to see what they say... Better than the flying metal oil drum that hit my '04 WRX a few years ago on the same interstate. What a lovely commute.

I backed out of a driveway with a slight incline last week and scraped the bumper (eventhough it didn't on the way in) and it now has a small crack at grommet hole on the passenger side. I have less than 2k miles on the car and this was the first time it was hit! Definitely not happy. Something should be done.

Mine is all scraped up on the left and right side (underneath). Driveway apron enjoys chewing it up. I only have 7k on mine and adding the nice crack in the center of the bumper makes me forget all about the scrapes! lol

Mine has a crack on the second day of ownership (80 miles on it). The lower front bumper has a crack about 3" long. It goes pretty far up the front. Want to cry.
There are no scrapes that I can see and i'm pretty anal about not pulling too far ahead. Took it to the Subie dealer I bought it at and they assume I must have pulled it somehow backing up. He speculates it will cost me abut $300-400 to repair (not replace). |

I saw that the guys at Autoweek also managed to crack the front bumper on their long-term STI after just a few months. They blamed it on driving through heavy snow. This is just ridiculous, I park so far away from curbs and parking blocks because I'm so paranoid.

Wow, that is the cleanest 2.5i I've ever seen. You could work on you're punctuation. Nice car though.

I was reading this thread at work thinking "man I hope my bumper doesn't crack." On the drive home I took a tire to the bumper... cracked on the drivers side. Lovely.

Fml gonna check for cracks on my '11 tomorrow. And somehow my fender liner on the front passenger side lost a clip and it got loose and got chewed up by the front under where it attaches to the bumper. Had to buy a new one at the dealer for $67 with all the clips. Now this has me wondering as to why it got loose.

I used a metal race behind it when I cracked mine, then filled, sanded, primed and painted. Now, I'd just buy a new one.
