There is only one guy in that thread that says he was tuned by them and that was his first post. Overall a fairly worthless thread that hinted at some sorta drama, not looking good to me.

i know of one person tuned by them. his engine blew up less that 10 miles (i think, something like that) after the tune. however...the engine was built by ron at the end of his engine building days, so im not going point any fingers. i also have no proof either way. however...you asked, and this is the most honest answer i can give.

search subie12345 (or 1234...i dont remember) there are very detailed engine build, and car build threads.

have you considered synaptic 3? they are also in NH and have a very good reputation. Ive dealt with them personally, and have nothing but good things to say.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think it used to be a different company. They changed the name a few years ago.

Met the owner before, seemed like an ass to me. Was too good to talk to me about my car.

Kinetic used to be Trick Engineering for the most part.

I have recently had a pretty crappy experience with Kinetic. I would not go back there for any sort of work that's for sure.

Yes sir I will. I was planning on posting this in the Reviews section but I guess this is just as good.

After installing a set of coilovers and an ALK, I called Kinetic Motor Works and asked if they did performance alignments. They told me that they did not, but they sub them out to a shop close by and quoted me $125-150. I said that's fine but that the car was a few weeks past its inspection and that I didn't think they should be driving it around. At this point they ask me about the mods and if it was inspectable because they are a certified state inspection station. I said that it has a turbo back exhaust, but that it will pass the OBD2 scan. I was then told that it wouldn't be a problem and they would do the inspection at the same time, and I set up a time to drop off the car.

The next day after work I head out to pay and pick up the car. I was told that they could not bring it to the agreed upon shop, because it was "too low" and they did a manual alignment. I was told that it took 5.5 hours to complete but that they were only going to charge me for 4 @ $85/hr. I was pretty shocked by the price, but even more so when the tech came out and handed me a bag containing my stock camber bolts, and 2 sets of tabbed washers from aftermarket camber bolts.

I had one set of aftermarket bolts installed in the rear, and one set in the glove box just in case. He said he couldn't get the numbers I wanted using the stock bolts so he figured he would put the extra set of aftermarket bolts in. I explained to him that was not what I wanted or what we had discussed, and that the aftermarket bolts should never be used in the factory eccentric bolt hole. Then I asked him why he took the washers out. He told me he didn't know what they were for. I tried to explain to him that they are very important, and the bolt is unsupported without them. What kind of suspension tech doesn't know how to use a camber bolt? Why wouldn't they call me instead of just assuming they knew what I would want?

He goes on saying that my car is "too slammed, blah, blah" (it definitely isn't slammed) and that he couldn't align it with my front camber plates canted for extra caster. They also go on to tell me that they decided not to put a sticker on it, because they have had trouble in the past. At this point I'm really starting to get irritated. They want over twice the quoted price for an incorrect alignment and no inspection when the day before it was no problem at all.

So we agreed that they would flip the plates "the correct way" and re-install the washers in the rear, and the factory camber bolts in the front, and that the charge would be the quoted price $150. Fast forward two days and I get a call telling me that it's all done. I went after work and find that the front plates are now installed backwards 180 degrees. At this point, I just want to cut my losses, so I pay the $150 and head home.

My confidence in their work was obviously lacking, so I used a tape measure to check the front toe and found it to still be 3/8" toe out. So to fully inspect the rest of their hack job I put the car back up on stands in my garage. I found that they bent the crap out of my pinch welds. So bad that bottom lip of the side skirt is all deformed and torn. I called and talked to the owner, and he offered to take another look at it, but I won't be taking my car back there any time soon.

Why would they tell me that an inspection sticker won't be a problem and then agree to take an alignment job if they can't do it?

Cliffs: I pay $150 for shady alignment and mangled pinch welds.

^Wow, that's crap. My buddies shop in Plaistow only a few miles away from them has a lift for the alignment rack that can take slammed cars. I wonder who they sub work out too? Seems dumb to sub out work like that to a shop who cannot accommodate lowered cars who specializes in performance tuning.

But why on earth did you not call Synaptic 3 for this first??

Thats just the thing, Ive always had my alignments done at Synaptic3 and have been very pleased with their work. When I called them last week they were booked out until this week.

I tried to get it done sooner and took a gamble and lost

Well I can't say anything for the bad experiences but I started going to Kinetic a couple months go and so far I've been very happy. Not sure if they changed owners or what but they've been very helpful with information as well as pricing for parts/labor. Mike tuned my car (2004 WRX) with 110k and make 230whp and 260wtq stage 2. Just thought I'd share some positive feedback.

I have been dealing with Kinetic for almost a year now and don't have one bad thing to say about them. After reviewing other tuners in the north east and being to some dyno meets and seeing some things happen on other dynos I am planning on having them tune both my and my girlfriends car.

I've spent quite a bit of money at Kinetic and I have nothing but good things to say about them.
They definitely seem like the kind of shop that treats you how you treat them - if you go in acting like a dick, you'll get dick back.

They drove up the street to my friend's house to pick up his registration when he forgot to leave it for them for an inspection. We were 50 miles away at a RallyX and he called them, and they drove to his house to pick it up. Has anyone else heard of service like that? Neither have I, so I keep going back.

Every shop has their issues, but I can safely say that the only issue that I've seen at Kinetic is that they're just too damn busy and need someone there JUST to cover the office and let the guys who like to build fast cars do their thing.

Well in my case I was nothing but nice. Anybody that knows me personally will tell you that I am a pretty calm guy. The first day I met them we talked about subarus for at least half an hour, Mike showed me his setup etc.

Overall I liked everyone I dealt with. I said nothing negative about any of their emplyoees. I gave them multiple chances to get it right. I guess I just expected more after all of the glowing reviews I have read about Kinetic. Just thought that I would share my experience.

I have been going to kinetic for around 2-3 months now and they have been nothing but helpful and understanding with me and from every one that ive talked to about them has had nothing but good things to say. They also give me great prices on what ever I need and seeing how i am a former marine they give me discounts. Not many shops give discounts to prior military persons. I am getting a tune on my 02 wrx here in the near future and they are doing it I dont trust any other shop.
