I just did it today. I found two pages that were of great help.
The first is http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1410201. Read the entire first post if you are using a Tratrix cable and using ECUFlash. Thats all I used. I downloaded ECUFlash and the latest ECU definitions for ECUFlash. The second page that really helped http://www.romraider.com/Documentati...aiderFAQ#toc14. In this post scroll down to #2) Reading and Flashing your ECU This page describes how to read the ROM and Write it after you have changed it. And last I will link to another thread where I was asking how to change the ROM so it disabled my specific code (DTC Diagnostic Trouble Code). Here is the how to using ECUFlash. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...1#post35255978 Phatron's post #7 explains exactly how to toggle the exact DTC you want to disable. So, I want to make sure I am getting the right equipment for the job. I have a 2006 Saab 9-2x (same as WRX Wagon?). I was going to get the Openport 2.0 (Link). I should be able to download the stock rom from the car. Make a backup. Edit a copy of the stock rom to remove the offending CEL codes. Save and reflash with ECUFlash. And no more CEL for my p2441?

Getting P1410, P2441 and P2443 in my 07 WRX. P1410 says stuck open, 2441 is bank 1 closed, 2443 is bank 2 closed.
Think I'm safe to pull the fuses and flash the CEL out? If not, I'm not really that concerned about removing the whole system, I just want the CEL to go away without having to pay to replace a bunch of parts that are just going to die again in the next 30-60k miles. I know removing the RH valve is a pain in the ass, but can I get to it enough to just wedge the block plate in between the line and the cylinder head? |

Stuck open is bad, you need to remove the whole system. It is not as hard as some people make it out to be, it is challenging, but it is doable.
It is possible to just disconnect the valves and put the block off plates on without removing the up pipe and just leave everything in place. Then you just need to tune the cels out and there ya go. |

I've been following this thread because my 06 wrx wagon just started giving me P1410, P2433, and P2444. Basically looks like my secondary air pump/valves are stuck open. It's annoying since it only has 44k, but older than 3 years...which means, even in california, the extended emission warranty doesn't cover these secondary air pump/combi valves....only good for 3 years/50k whichever comes first, unless I'm mistaken(I hope so). Dealer wants $1700+ for replacing this whole unit.
Has anyone been successful in persuading SOA that this secondary air pump is basically a faulty part and they should replace it for free, or give us a break( like just paying the dealer for labor only)? I'm talking to them now for the second time. first time I was just flat denied, but this time I'm asking for a written response so that I can send it to EPA. If anyone has any definite info on whether this stinking secondary air pump thing is under warranty or not for cars less than 70 or 80k in california, please let me know. I worked for a Subaru Dealership for two year as a Service Advisor. If the customer was a loyal one to the dealership, we always covered the replacement of these. It is a very common problem and we found that the pump and/or valves were getting some moisture in them causing corrosion. Of course, I am in the Northeast so it may not be your problem. But, things can always be covered out of warranty, it's all up to how you treat the people at the dealership, because anything can be denied as well! |

Can a block off plate be used on the hose going to the RH head? Rather than removing the hose and installing a plate on the head itself. I don't see why not, but figured I'd ask to see if anyone ran into trouble doing that.
I also saw someone post a few times that this system failing can cause major engine damage. Is that really true? Only one person has stated that and no one else has actually reported that they had engine damage as a result of this system failing. |

Mine is a 06(5years old) and has 45k, so it's too old, but since it's almost covered, I did some talking with the SOA folks... Anyways, after talking to this nice lady at SOA customer service, they agreed to do a good will repair, and I am happy! |

One should be nestled under the drivers side intake manifold, and the other should be under the intercooler on the drivers side, or on the opposite side of the IM.

the DTC code P1410 is "Secondary Air Injection system Switching Valve Stuck Open" according to the list of DTCs. So the valves under the intercooler might still be there. I had similar problem with my 06 WRX, except I got two more codes on top of the one you had: P2433 and P2444. I had to replace the whole secondary combi valve components( the air pump and the two valves). Looks like the air pump itself is gone, though, like you mentioned.

Honestly there is no real better way, there is very limited space. The more space you free up to put the plates in the easier its going to be on you.
Where your really going to have problems is the plate behind the Up pipe and the air line that runs to it, even with my entire exhaust system removed that thing was a PITA. Good luck and if youj have any questions feel free to PM me. |

Just filed a report with the USDOT @ http://www.mycarstats.com/content/fi...complaints.asp , any other places we can file a report? This should be a recall imo.
Heres my claim, PLEASE FILE ONE so that we can get our money back for this or get this fixed for free. Code P1410 Secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open. This is a common error many 2006 and up Subaru Impreza WRX owners are having. The emissions system is prone to fail due to carbon buildup or moisture and rust contaminating valves, leading to repairs costing $700 to $1500. This failure is common even with low mileage. NOTE THESE CODES ARE ALSO ASSOCIATED WITH THIS FAILURE: 06/07 WRX: P0410 P0411 P0413 P0414 P0416 P0417 P0418 P2431 P2432 P2433 P2440 P2441 P2442 P2443 P2444 07 STI: P0410 P0411 P0413 P0414 P0418 P2431 P2432 P2433 P2441 P2444 |

I didn't have time to fix this myself. Just had dealership replace one valve that was stuck open (the easier to get to valve) cost $324.35 in parts / $150 in labor, Subaru of America helped pay $250 of the total cost. Was worth the call to SOA, but I still think this should be a recall.
*UPDATE - 2/8/12* CEL came on again, threw the same exact code (P1410; valve stuck open) that I had before I got this "fixed" by the dealer (Mcurley Integrity Subaru). I'm not sure if they actually replaced this part or just cleared it and said they did, or replaced it with a defective part, or is it the other valve that can throw the exact same code? Kinda feeling like im getting shafted here. Block plates are looking like the best option now, just a pita. Last edited by hardwire18; 02-09-2012 at 12:24 AM. |

I just had code P2443 Bank 2 switching valve stuck closed.
I used access tuner RACE to deleted the listed codes above. Will I have any issue with the system still being in place for now? I don't have time to remove it yet(I plan to, soon). 2006 WRX TR with MT. I edited a AP Stage 2 93 map and disabled the codes. |
