alky injection/water injection... i dont understand
I searched the threads for a while about alky or water injection but I cant find the answers to my questions. I found threads comparing kits but not explaining what they do. I know that they allow you to run more boost but how are they installed and how are they used? Im guessing with water injection, it lowers the knock threshold...right? I also want to know how much water/alcohol you have to use to make it work right. Sorry for the questions, but Im curious...

Read the forums @ Aquamist.co.uk. Also, there is a long Aquamist thread in the engine management forum (it's of a more advanced-learning sort of thread, but you will still pick up some points from it).
There are equations/methodologies for determining how much water. Also look at waterinjection.info. The general theory with WI is that it allows you too cool the cylinder temps with water instead of feul. You can then do the following: 1. more boost without knock and/or more timing without knock and/or less fuel without knock 2. same power with less fuel (e.g., save gas $$$) There's also a side effect: it steam cleans your engine over time. I've been running an aquamist setup for over 2 months, and love it. I have a 12L Spec C tank in the trunk with a 50/50 mixture of meth/water, and have the IC tapped at the base of the throttle body opening with a 7mm water jet. The key to WI though is the tuning. |

Short version:
High pressure water or water/methanol/ethanol/isopropyl mixes are injected through an atomizing nozzel directly to the intake manifold. This water or mix evaporates and cools the air, and if any liquid is left at the copmression stroke in the cyl, will inhibit pre-ignition and allow for increased boost, leaner mixtures, and more advanced timing. injected water mix volume can usually range from around 10-25% of the injected fuel volume, epending on setup, implementation, and tuning. |
