Tell Mr. Hamburglar that you will buy another one from him ONLY if he lets you go to his garage and take his 22B out for a spin...

I guess I don't get the whole "wait 6-12 months for a special order WRX" thing. It just seems stupid when there are a LOT of brand new WRX's siting on lots that can be purchased for low prices. Yeah, they might not have the exact group of options you want, but at least you get to spend the next year driving a new WRX instead of hitting F5 on this thread and wishing your car was here.

Just my 2 cents.

So I assume you're saying you don't mind waiting 6-12 months for your order? That's great. I prefer to get a new WRX off the lot for a few thousand under MSRP and enjoy driving it. I get emails almost every day from New England Subaru dealers enticing me to buy a new '12 WRX with ridiculous deals.

There really aren't that many sitting on lots and when they are, they go fast. If I'm spending that much I'm going to get the options I want. I also received my order in 4 weeks. Not everyone has to wait 6-12 months and when it does arrive you realize that it was worth the wait. Plus it's great knowing that it was built just for you.

Yeah pretty much this. No stock at any of the 5 closest dealers. First of all, 6-12 months for a WRX I don't believe, maybe 6-12 weeks. If you're a gotta have it now guy, that's why dealers (sometimes can) hold stock on their lot. Some people (like me) enjoy the experience of building their own personal car, and the anticipation of it being built exclusively for them. Got my deal for a pinch over invoice. And my salesman said he likes to take pictures of ordered cars arriving on the truck for their customers. Sorry, but that's just crazy cool. I'm stoked

Different strokes for different folks, just a different car buying experience, that's all.

Well, I'm glad you are enjoying yours. I also wish I lived where you are. The car I wanted has been MIA for months. I check dealer stock and come up empty handed every time. It just isn't out there, so my only option is to wait for a new new one.

Any idea on how pricing differs for the Subaru of New England?

Just my 2 cents.

There were production issues that caused delays on the last runs of the 2012 models.

With the 2013 there will be a ~2 month wait to get the exact car you want, not 6-12 months...

Most people buying a wrx/sti would like the exact specs they can get. I would also imagine they would rather pay LESS for a car that is a year newer...

What do I know though, I just sell them

Would you rather pay 25,000 for a new 2012, or 25,000 or less for a new 2013 that would take 8-12 weeks to arrive?

Depreciation, how does it work?

(using 25,00 as an example)

Dealers around here are very motivated to sell off their 2012's. If you play the game right, you can save a lot. I've only purchased 3 new vehicles in my life, but I got very good deals by buying at certain times and using the dealer's motivation to my advantage. Having multiple dealers competing for the lowest price is awesome.

Judging by the price sheet posted on page 1, the Subaru of New England prices are the same. At least that's what shows on my order sheet.

Again, I'm just expressing my opinions. I know some folks won't agree or understand. I just like making dealerships work for me, even with the used cars I've bought.

Everyone's different. Me personally, I couldn't find a white STi in all of New England, sedan or hatch, let alone one with nav and short shifter. Yes, it sucks waiting. But at least you get exactly what you want. I've "settled" on cars before that maybe haven't been the color I've wanted but was a good deal and I was impatient. But after a while, I regret not looking more, especially when I see an SWP on the road, gets me every time .

I can understand that, but I would not sacrifice the exact color and trim I want just to make dealers work. I also wouldn't pay the same price for a 2012 if i would wait 2 months for a 2013...

Different strokes I guess.

I would never wait 6-12 months, maybe 4 months if I got the greatest deal ever.

Waiting for the car you ordered is worth it for a few reasons:

1 - You said you like to get them off the lot. Those cars have been test driven where someone honda-shifted and ground the gears and then farted in the seat without ever intending to buy it.

2 - Some of us want to choose the exact options and colors that we want. I don't want to be forced to choose between two cars with the same options but different colors.

3 - You don't know what has been done to it. I went to a Mitsubishi dealership in Biloxi, MS to buy an Evo back in 2005. I sat in the car and looked at a dragstrip timeslip sitting on the passenger seat. I was dumb and gave it to the dealer when I should have kept it and forced them to sell me an abused car for half the sticker price.

Personally, I want the limited but with no nav. I want a sunroof and heated seats with a short shifter.

I will be the first person, ever, to drive my car.

Ha ha, by "drive" I mean get it going fast enough to get the tires up to temp, turn a corner, mash the breaks, all that stuff. I don't consider "driving" to be the equivalent of what a valet driver does. Besides, they have the right to drive it from factory to whatever transportation it takes to get it here...they built it.
