How would running 245/40 tires on the stock 17x8 WRX wheels be? I'm keeping my snow tires instead of the stock summers since I still need them here for CO. I want to order a new set of summers.

9.5 38et probably will be the best fittment just like the GR but obviously we can push the limits with some fender rolling and coils etc

I'm thinking of running 19x9.5" +42 ET RPF-1's on 265/30R19's: http://goo.gl/SwrAKJ
May have to roll the fenders a bit with that setup. The stock fenders can accommodate approximately an extra inch of width, so an extra 1.26" will be pushing it without any fender rolling. The additional 6mm of inset is practically negligible; if it becomes an issue, I can add a 5mm spacer. Last edited by Sinsear; 04-17-2014 at 08:11 PM. |

So basically. For say 265x40x18 roll it , and may need a 5mm spacer?

Actually, I think I settled on 18 x 9.5". Time to go to Discount Tire and do some fitment tests. I'm curious whether +38 ET or +45 ET will result in a better fit.

Did some test fitting at Discount Tire. 18x9.5" ET+45 fits very well and looks spectacular. ET+38 will require some serious fender rolling (especially if you lower the car).
Purchased some black Enkei PF01's 18x9.5" ET+45 with Michelin Pilot Super Sport 265/35R18 tires. Looking forward to everything arriving by the end of this week/early next week. Decided on the PF01's rather than RPF1's to allow for greater brake caliper clearance and larger rotors. The RPF-1's should clear the stock brakes, but if you ever decide to upgrade to high-end Brembo's or StopTech's at any point, RPF-1's won't clear (unless you install a massive spacer, in the 15-20mm range). When you were test fitting the wheels, were you testing it with a tire on or just the wheel?

Great! You just made my wheel choices just that much more complicated...lol. Thought for sure I was getting 18 x 8.5's.....now not so sure. So are you saying that et45 would not require any fender rolling? Would love to see some pics as soon as you get your set up on. |

Yes, they did install 18x9.5" ET+38, but judging by the photos, unless the suspension has 1mm of travel, you're going to destroy your tires on the street with the setup that they're running. Keep in mind that they have a show car. Fitting some wheels and tires into a car that doesn't move and stays on a carpeted floor is very different than a daily driver for street use.

So your saying Sinsear that 18x9.5 +38 will destroy the tires? or the 18x10 +22's would destroy the tires?
I'm wondering if it would be even possible to run the 18x10 +22's with a 275/40/18 rubber without having to run insane camber to make it fit (even with a full fender roll)... Not to mention running lowered springs or lowered coilovers. |
