She laughed and said impossible.

Well last time a woman said "That won't fit" I proved her wrong.

So today I pushed/rolled everything out into the driveway. Cleaned up everything and now I have 4 motorcycles + an easy to access snowblower on the third side. Also got access to the tools and the beer fridge. Both subarus sit on the main section. Her bicycle that she won't ride in the winter is hanging from hooks on the ceiling. The other bicycle my other room mate rides sits next to my FZ8. The trash can sits between two motorcycles close to the garage door. And her winter tires are sitting next to the completely accessible BBQ. Plenty of room to walk around. Heck I even have room to roll up my shop stool and sit in front of my arcade machine.

Bring it on winter. I'm ready.
hahaha That'll show Curly! Nice job, sir. I love how you made sure the arcade still had priority and access. Kudos.

Unpossible!!

The snow burst got me preparing for winter as well. Fixed wood stove flue, cleaned deck and stacked deck chairs out of way, rearranged garage a bit for snow blower access, placed hoses inside (were already disconnected from bibs), Sealed bedroom windows, searched CL for snow tires. Had a beer or 3.

Congrats! I can't wait for this day to come, it's a ways off though. Just ordered my winter wheels/tires, that didn't help.

Got an offer for the Evo that I would be stupid to refuse.

Man, why do I have to be so attached to the goddamn thing?

I seriously am in anguish over the whole thing.

If it's for their 16-year-old son, don't do it.

Kids and expensive cars...

*I* think that you should work for what you want. I'm sure we alllll would've loved to have a helping hand in getting our first car or whatever, but my parents didn't help me and I feel stronger for it. Not a sense of entitlement, mind you, just that I know what it takes to get things I want.

Watching kids roll around in brand new gear from their parents seems like a lost chance for a huge life lesson. If you want something, bust your ass to get it. I've bought all my cars with no help from my parents. They haven't co-signed on anything either(notevenmystudentloans$60kgrumblegrumble). But I know the value of the dollar and value my purchases and belongings. *I* am better off for it. I don't care that I got crazy in debt going to school, because now I have the money to pay it all off. I think that once you GIVE something to someone without them having to work for it, it loses its meaning or luster. You have to work for the things you want in life. Look at all the "new money" millionaires and the majority are saying the same thing. They would'nt appreciate it as much if they were a trust fund kid.

That's the draw of online arguing. People are more "ballsy" when it comes to letting everyone know how they feel about a certain topic and because they have this mask to hide behind, they let it all out. Another, less popular, saying is, "Give a man a mask and he'll show his true face".

Being in IT I get to see this almost daily. Whether it's on forums or within the corporation. Less so in the corp, obviously, but it still happens. It could be for a multitude of reasons like the article above mentioned. Angry about your income, your debt, your weight, your lack of sexual prowess. Whatever it may be, you are who you REALLY are online. Behind that mask that you've created.

What's with this morality or what not. It's business. Who cares if the parents are buying it for their kid or not. When my kids come to age, I hope I'm in a position to make sure they drive something nice.

I'm going to totally agree with Eric on this one. I aspire to be in a great enough career where I can buy my son a 2028 BMW M3 or 2028 STi Limited w/ autodrive super flying.
Though, he must EARN said car, I won't just toss him the keys if he has terrible grades and a crap attitude.

^^^^Well, that's where the two sides of the coin are. You want to take better care of your kids than your parents took care of you. Not saying that you were treated horribly, but that you want to learn from their mistakes and not repeat them with yours.

I want to instill the confidence in my children that if they want something they will have to work for it. The confidence part being that they are CONFIDENT in themselves that they can achieve whatever they put their mind to. They'll have to know how much of a PITA $40k is to finance and how much money it takes to insure an adolescent in a sports car. Just because I *can* buy my kid a $40k BMW doesn't mean I should. Be the change you want to see in the world.

And as a side note, I'm completely on board with chano selling his WRX to those people. They're going to do it from somewhere, might as well be you. No moral issues involved. I just wouldn't be buying my kid a sports car.

There's a difference between buying your kid a nice car, and a car in nice shape.

My parents bought me a '99 Chevy Cavalier Z24, and it was in great shape. I loved it, and it was a perfect first car. My mom (sort of) made a deal that if I was valedictorian, she'd buy me a WRX. I fell through on that deal.

I also think that newer cars are safer than they were 15-20 years ago, but it's a shame that insurance companies charge less for older cars if you're a teen. Do I want a teen to have a newer car? Sure. I'd want my kid to be as safe as possible. Is AWD nice? Sure. It helps build confidence in driving in any condition. Is a manual nice? Sure. You learn to control what's going on with the car. It connects you with every move. Should a teen have 265HP at their disposal as their main vehicle, unshared?

I'm supposed to meet the kid and his real dad tomorrow sometime. I'm thinking that they'll drag their feet too long anyways, so I'm completely preparing myself for the trade-in rape I'll be receiving. If they are interested, but the kid is a douche, being upside on the trade-in might be worth a clean conscience. Yeah, they can get it somewhere else, but it doesn't HAVE to be from me.

"Ah, look Chano sold his WRX to that doucebag teen and he wrapped it around a pole."

At least if someone goes to the dealership to get it the price will be higher than $25k, so a bit more out of reach for just anyone to buy, at least that's how I see it since a lot of people want a WRX, but not everyone has one.

My first car was a 1991 Subaru Legacy. Yes my parents bought it but I definitely had to put forth some effort. I had to take a defensive driving class.. I had to obey curfews.. I had to get good enough grades to qualify for good student discount. I also had to learn how to use public transportation. I also had to pay for basic maintenance.

They mostly got me a car because it was more time efficient for them. I was part of a lot of activities plus I went to school in Anchorage so they didn't want to give me rides anymore.

As for student loans... I don't have any because my parents kept my pfds in a trust.

I'm with you. Not saying that kids with nice cars are bad but giving it to them with a silver spoon is. If you give kids things their whole life they wont learn to work and will always expect to be given things without earning them. I dont want my dad or other hard working people to have to pay lazy people back for their taxes just because they're too lazy to work and make a living. If you want to give your kids something nice that's fine but at least make them earn it. Set a goal like if they have good grades you will match whatever they save. If I got that deal I would start saving for a GTR!

I agree with most everything you said. As a kid I was given a 1989 Honda Civic hatchback. But, when I got awesome grades and behaved well throughout Sophomore year my parents bought me a 99 Jetta VR6 as a gift. They saw how well I was trying in school, how much trouble I stayed out of when I was with friends, and how I was managing my money, so they awarded me the car. The only other "hand out" received from them was when I graduated in the top 5% of my class and they got me an 08 Impreza.
I jut want my son to have a similar experience once he is that age, just with a nicer car down ;p

Again, agreed. I.E my 89 Civic. I learned how to drive that FWD tin can in the winter, so I learned quite a bit about driving in adverse conditions because of it. Along with maintenance intervals and other basic car knowledge.

Went through almost the exact same process with my Civic.
Made me a better driver and adult for it.

I completely agree with you and SLDWYS on this as well. While each generation wants to provide better for their children, they are also in some ways hampering them by not allowing them to learn life lessons.

Agreed, Caleb.
My best friend in high school got that deal from his dad, and also had to maintain a 3.5 GPA. He ended up saving $23,000 in 2 years .
And his dad, true to his word, matched him dollar per dollar, cent per cent $23,000 and they bought him a brand new Chevy Silverado, built with every BA option he could throw onto it. (his family was VERY well off)

I went to the "Jones School of Hard Knocks" my parent helped me with MX racing for a good 15 years outside of that nothing. They co-signed my student loans because I was only 17 when I started college, but that's it. My first 3 vehicles were as old a I am and cost less than $1000. Money I earned myself assembling and delivering furniture every single day after school.

^^^ Oops(re:silverado)

My family didn't help me with cars, my loans, or my first apartment. So, it's kind of only natural that I do the same. I want my kids to save up their own money and buy their own car, sign their own loans, and get their own place at 18. I did and I know they can do it. No one else is going to give them hand outs.

Now, this isn't to say that if my child is in a bind and in a sinking ship that I won't swoop in and help them out. And....I of course am talking about stuff that I have ZERO experience in. It's more of a "I learned this from my parents' mistakes....I'll know not to do that in the future" that I'm speaking about. I guess that's why this makes it OT.

Chano, I don't know how you sell cars like a carousel man.

I just got offered $20k for my Evo and I walked away. Couldn't do it. One of the hardest decisions I've had in my life. I got about 3 hours of sleep last night because I couldn't decide what to do. I was a mess.

I wish I could just see a car as a car. I could've made a killing off that car.
