SoA Blog -

I've ordered a 2008 STI through my dealer from the factory. Lead time I've been told is 8-12 weeks. I'm at three weeks now.

Is there any way to get updates from SoA (or FHI) regarding production of 'my car'? That is, items such as when the order was received, when a VIN gets assigned, when the car is finished, shipping, delivery, etc?

Thanks

Ask your dealer to check his "pipeline" report. It will give you an expected date and where the car is in the process. The dates will change a few times as it goes through the process.

What exactly is SOA's plan for meeting the new CAFE requirement?

Can we consumers expect any high mileage Subaru's soon?

SOA Blog,

My wife and I shopped for a new vehicle, and I was VERY happy about the 2009 Forester redesign (she had a 2004 Santa Fe). I was looking forward to making ours a 'Subie' family (adding to my 05' WRX).

When we stopped by the dealer to test drive the 09' Forester, I fell in love with it... Until I got in. Whats up with the seats? Its like sitting on the floorboards. All the effort was made to give it a SUV-like stance, but with Impreza-low seats. This is the only reason why we didn't purchase (she bought an 08 Santa Fe). Obviously, for a new model, you didn't want to scare the low-riding grandpas and grandmas with a jacked up Tahoe feel, but I felt like a 9 year old in a 77' LTD. Has this issue been considered after the production release?

Also, no more clear ice-daddy tail light lenses on the 08 WRX's. Leave that to the RX300's and Civics... Why the decision? My assumption is when the design was finalized, this was a popular trend and it was too late?

Thanks for taking time to visit this thread.

Eric

You're talking about the more car-like driving position compared to compact SUVS. Sure, it feels more car like, and for many people that's a good thing. If we had changed that layout to be more SUV-like, plenty of people would have complained about that.

Why not just make the seats height-adjustable? If my 03 WRX can have that feature, why not the 09 Forester?

It may be a more car-like seating position, but it's a more SUV-like body. Every car I've owned has had a lower cowl. No one wants to feel like granny peering over the top of the dash. The power driver's seat on some trims fixes the problem for the most part, but there's no solution at any cost for the front passenger.

It is a problem. Really. It was one of the first things I noticed about the interior, and it instantly made me wonder if my wife (typically the front passenger on drives together) would even accept it.

For the record my wife has approximately 18 months left until we can get out of her lease early, and 24 months until it is up, I would really like a diesel or a small car from Subaru at that point.

If you bring a diesel you get one sale from us, if you bring a small car you get 2 sales oh, and offer the small car in funky colours........

Surely you guys don't think people are buying them because of the seating position. I can hear it now...

"Check it out, honey. The new Forester has class-leading safety, power and economy in a more capable and useful package than ever before!"

"Sounds perfect, snookums, but we're not buying unless it feels like I'm sitting in a hole".

"You're in luck, darling... they raised the cowl by like 3 feet! You can't even SEE the hoodscoop anymore. It's SOO awesome now!"

All I'm askin' is for a power passenger seat here, people. Sit in a hole if you'd like. I'd prefer not to.

Yes, actually they are.

People like the fact that they can get in and out very easily, the taller belt line makes them "feel" safer (even though they already are safe)

You can keep pissing and moaning all you like, but the facts are against you.

Speaking of easy egress - - I had noticed quite a few folks with disabilities driving Subaru's. Someone I was chatting with at the mall had an 09 Forester (was putting his wife's wheelchair in the back as I happened by) - and he told me that Subaru has a program for the disabled? That and how easy it was for his wife to get in and out of the car made the sale for them. SOA Blog - can you tell me about the disabled program? Does Subaru, in fact, have one or was this something this guys dealer worked out for him?

Which facts would those be? I know Forester's selling at a record pace and is a fantastic all-around package. That's irrelevant unless you've got a breakdown of the number of Forester owners that purchased the vehicle because of the high cowl/low seat vs. the number of potential customers lost because of it vs. the number that purchased a Forester despite of it.

For Pete's sake, a power passenger seat would let anyone who wants to sit low in a high car continue do so, and would be appreciated by anyone ELSE who wants to be able to see over the dash instead of being surrounded by it. Is this so ridiculous?

Get out in the real world and talk to actual owners of the vehicle for petes sake, not that hard to do.

Yeah, the call center is inundated with complaints. Not really.

OK, so have you done this to gather the facts you're referring to?

(BTW, you're not including info from people who didn't buy one if you only talk to actual owners, so your data would be skewed.)

I didn't know official Subaru responses were supposed to be so sarcastic.

So how many complaints about this have there been, then? What's the top complaint regarding the new Forester? You must have that info at your fingertips, apparently. If you were trying out new cars, would you give each manufacturer's call center a jingle to tell them what you didn't like?

When the original poster commented on the seating position, I was just confirming that I experienced the same issue with it, and posted a simple solution. In summary, Forester's great... availability of a power passenger seat could make it better. If you guys think that's ridiculous or whining, that's fine.

At this point, I've got no more to add to this, which is probably for the best... I'm tired of the subject and you & hondaslayer are likely tired of listening. Peace, fellow Subie lovers.

Talking with my customers for one

The only complaint I have heard about the Forester seats was from my own grandmother, she wanted a power drivers seat but she hates leather (she bought a 5pax Tribeca instead)

Official Subaru responses only count Mon-Thurs 9am - 6pm EST and Fri from 10am-5 EST except for holidays (no matter how meaningless) when they are closed, or when they are closed for a random 2 hrs with no explanation (ahem)

My #1 complaint I've heard about the new Forester is the headrests, actually. Some people don't like the way they feel.
