Climate Change - Do you care?
It's a big issue and some scientists say that we have 5 or 10 years to try and reverse this before it's too late. Do you even care or is this just another problem for the next generation?
This is a serious question by the way.

catless 3" downpipe FTMFW!
I'm just kidding... I'm no expert but i think climate change is happening whether we try and stop it, or not. Slowing it down is the only option we have. If everyone in the world stopped driving today and all the countries started going green (recycle, maybe implementing rules as to how many kids a family can have etc.) we'd actually have a chance. It's weird living in a small town like Victoria, and feeling like there is hope then you go to places like Toronto with 4 lane highways and towns that stretch as far as the eye can see... then i feel like there is no hope It's funny i wanted to make a thread liek this, but more about oil. I read the world is running out of oil at an alarming rate, they're saying maybe in the next 5 - 10 years. Without oil transportation of medicines/food/necessities will be almost impossible. I have 'prophecy', that just as how humans enter and leave their life in diapers... the human race is going to leave the earth the way it started, dunno if that makes sense |

Climate change in indeed happening but if we all sat back and said this problem is too big for us then it'll really end our world as we know it. The average temperature of the earth has gone up and they say another 2 degrees and we will hit that tipping point. I mean if everyone thought that "Oh just a few catless exhausts isn't going to hurt the planet" well I think change starts with that small step in the right direction.

Hence I don't think I will ever go cat-less although I did increase my emission output from being 2.5 NA to now 2.0 boosted

people focus on different things for different reasons, climate change may be a real issue but because people profit from its fear it will never be solved such as alot of diseases. Can you imaging if we did beat Cancer, no more funding for how many people, and how many out of a job.
We don't fix problems we just slow it down so money still comes in. Chris Rock had a good few lines on that. As for the cars polluting and all that bull****, it's the coal plants and the slash and burn for crops, whip out our forests for more food to feed one group of people, while another group (westerners) of over eating and being wasteful (Im guilty of this as I believe everyone else in NA is) Overly hipped, ya to make money, serious problem, possibly, but who the hell knows cause if one Scientist says it is and he needs to do research, well thats just another Grant towards the good fight. Capitalism and saving the planet do not go hand in hand. |

as selfish as it sounds, I'll be dead by then.
and 2012, I smell deja vu of the Y2K incident. Besides, on April 21, 2011, Skynet will attack and most of us will be doomed. |

Unfortunately, unless you plan to die in the next 30 to 50 years (which given the current life expectancy you'll still be around) you will be affected. I think if this was the 70s, we could definitely say that but the effects of climate change are more prevalent than ever. I for one don't want to be known as the generation that ruined this planet.

am I concern? yes
the better question is: is it man made or is it a natural process in the earths cycle? wasn't there news not too long ago where they found a turtle fossil in the arctic? wasn't it believed that it use to be warm up there millions of years ago......long before cars? http://blogs.usatoday.com/sciencefai...al-turtle.html Last edited by bender; 02-04-2009 at 05:47 PM. i Watched IMAX's Blue Planet last night actually ... really bothered me that 1 acre of rainforrest is set fire every second to clear land for more people and you can only grasp this when viewing earth from space, the rain forest is just smoking away ... I think we're overpopulated, and yeah messed up our planet . Yet I still drive everyday etc ...

Definitely over-populated, but the worst offenders are from the 3rd world where they aren't educated enough to stop contributing to the problem.

I'm on the side of people who aren't totally convinced that this isn't a natural phenomenon. Well, let me rephrase that. I agree that we as humans have over populated the earth and destroy way too much for own desires/needs and pollute way too much. I think that it is us COUPLED with natural cycles that we just don't have enough info/data to completely see that is causing rise in temps. Can we, should we be more green? Hell yes. Because we can and we should, it's the right thing to do and we are smart enough to know that. Last edited by Drizzie; 02-04-2009 at 06:36 PM. |

It's a pessimistic approach because look how long it takes people to discuss this, while the problem gets worse, it's like having a meeting of what to do when a tidal wave comes, while there is one offshore showing up.
People are too concerned now with making money then with change, and all the people that want to make a change feel they can't, IE everyone still driving, if we all cared alittle more we would stop driving and adapte our lifestyles, but we are too comfortable. Yes I agree the CFC thing did a big change and people made a giant about face on it, but if you look at the whole Global warming issue, there are signs but people are disproving them, which inturn means people have doubts. You cound't disprove a giant hole in the ozone, it was there, it was real. 3rd worlds are doing what they can to survive because no one is helping them or educating them. We need to face the facts that if we wanted to change we could but the social upheaval would be catastrophic. So instead a gradual approach should be taken, but who puts the plan into action, or even comes up with a plan, world leaders if they gave a **** about what they walk on instead of who they walked on would be getting things done. Hopefully soon we can see some real change. And on a note of capitalism, look at what GM and the other 2 have been doing for years, LOW MPG cars and railroading bills Cali has tried to pass in the senate. |

Yes something needs to be done, but I think a lot of people have the wrong approach, thanks to ***** like Al Gore
I'm a firm believer in starting with the biggest problems and then working your way down and what a lot of people don't realize is.... this: http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.as...al&Cr1=warming Dealing with that along with stricter regulations on factories and an effort to reduce deforestation would have much more of a positive effect. |

The problem is a big gap between the developed economy vs developing economy - the latter complained about the former making a mess and now trying to impose the same set of rules to both which would slow their economic growth, while the former believe that the latter is making the most mess right now so they have the biggest burden to clean-up. You're not going to solve that bickering - just look at Kyoto and the reasoning behind North America wanting nothing to do with it. Europe can do its share of emission reduction but until you get the Asians to buy in and help out we could kill our economy and still be nowhere near helping out the cause

and smells better i love that smell....a lot of people complain about it...they are not true enthusiasts but yeah....i dunno....i think the problem is people either dont care, or they take it to an extreme on the corner with a megaphone screaming armageddon is here.. Yes changes definitely need to be made in order to preserve the planet....but we're not all doomed....and you're not raping momma earth by driving your car to work....I work in buildings engineering, and the changes in building design with stuff like LEED in the last few years is pretty promising....along with more and more hybrid and fuel efficient vehicles coming out, I think we're on the right path and there's really no need to panic |

I'm a big fan of the idea of the very nature of life taking care of the problem for us. We as human beings think we are far more important than we actually are. We cannot destroy life on earth. We don't have that power. We can ruin the planet for ourselves, and a few other species, but life will go on regardless.
The earth has survived far worse things than us. |
