that isn't what my gs500 looks like! wow, I like the new looks.

I liked my gs500, just not fantastic on the highway (cruise at like 6-7krpms). Other than that, it was nice

I won't have a car in a week...and i'm trying to keep the miles down by not driving for serious stuff. I still have to take the motorcycle endorsement course

They're ~$8,000. Too much cash, speed, bling, poser-ish, plus they're a common piece for thiefs. I'm being realistic...something most kids wouldn't care about.

Oh, my bad... brand new.

BTW, speed, bling, 'poser-ish'? I'm no squid, but isn't the CBR like one of the best all-around streetbikes ev4r???

brand new SV's are only $6k.

nother bike to consider is a Triumph Speed 4. You can find them used for around $5k.

Side note: Even with your dirtbike/moped exp., isn't it a bad omen to buy a brand new bike as your first real streetbike?

this is why I ask OT.

As per your response above: Speed: a 600 CBR/R6/GSXR is all about the speed. You couldn't get to 5th gear in the city--by the time you're in 3rd/4th you're already at the speed limit. Bling/poser-ish: all the tool-bag kids around here have 'big' bikes; they go straight for the kill with it. I don't really care about how the "girls" or other people think about my bike. I know my limits and I don't want a crotch rocket to learn on.

I've heard 6k is average for a "sports" bike on the highway. Unless you get something like a buell Blast, thats how its normally going to be.
