Talking New Car Break IN

Hi everyone,

I just bought a 02 Wrx about a month ago, and i have about 800miles on it so far. I was reading the owners manual and it stats "Do not rev engine over 4k rpm's (unless emergency), Do not drive a constant speed, do not race engine...for the first 1,000 miles.

Was just curious is u guys think that 1,000 miles is adequete for the break in of our new subaru's.

Thanks, hope to hear your comments

I'm new to Subaru's, but I've owned and been around a lot of new cars, and I've always been told, Drive it from the start, like your going to drive it in the end. Even on new motorcycles, they say to do this "break in" thing, but I never have, and I've never had a problem.
I just bought my WRX, less than two weeks ago, and I have 1200 miles on, and didn't obey the "break in" law. Like I said, I am new to Subaru's, so I might have messed up my car in some yet unseen way, I just pray not.

***edit***
That was just my .02 cents worth, I would recommend that you listen to someone who knows more than me. Since you have 800 miles on it now, you might be too late, but remember that for your future cars.

Subaru engines stay really "tight" until around 12-20k miles. Then they get fully broken in and run lots better. Some people note improved gas mileage after 12k miles. But the recommended break in of 1000 miles of varied rpm driving is a good start before you flog the car.
