I am a therapist go get yourself to an outpatient clinic

I'm just glad you're ok. It's only money, but you can't put a value on your health. Believe me.

My plan from here is to gather up every receipt for every dollar I spent for my build, and stick to the hardline of getting all of it reimbursed from the insurance company.
Getting receipts is good. However, you need to re-read your policy. Many insurance companies put it right in the policy that they will not reimburse for aftermarket parts unless you paid the rider and itemized them/insured them on the policy. I wish you luck on getting it covered. Some do have success in doing so.

And I'm going to let you in on an industry secret: be nice to those handling your claim. They didn't cause your accident. Being mad at them "taking the hardline" because of someone else's fault is not going to serve your best interests. You can be firm, but nice and polite at the same time, and doing so you will probably find you can get better results (*because 9 out of 10 people that call them are 110% ballistic). The ins company is not your enemy in this case. Just keep that in mind when dealing with them.

Thanks KC, that's good info. If I may ask, why would it matter what my policy states? The accident was 100% his fault. Doesn't his insurance have to give me 'Replacement Cost' for my car? So what is replacement cost for new parts? Its like if I paid a shop to build that car a month ago, if I had a shop bill I would just give them that. How would they not have to reimburse me?

I don't plan on being mean, no likes @$$ holes. As I've read online, be firm, but polite. I only say 'stick to the hardline' meaning not let them low ball me.

Sad to see the snow birds consume another victim.

I live in AZ as well. Surprise to be exact. I live just outside of Sun City (home of the snow birds) They are ALWAYS causing accidents.

For those of you who don't live in AZ, your license essentially never expires. Mine is good until I am 65. A lot changes in 40 years. I still think people over a certain age need to take retests annually.

I was at the optometrist the other week, I am near sighted, my vision of seeing things far away is horrible. The optometrist showed me the legal distance you have to see in order to operate a vehicle and it was sad. It was sickening because it was probably 25-50 feet. They say in the driving manual that you need to keep your eyes looking at least 600 feet ahead of you at all times, but you only need to be able to see 50 feet in front of you to drive? That doesn't add up..

Sorry for your loss neil, I hope AZ cracks down on these old folk.

Find out what the buy back price for the car is after they total it. If it's less than what you spent on mods and work, take the car back and swap that into another body. All the important mechanicals of the car were spared in the accident, so you know they're in good shape. Find a WRX with a blown motor or shredded transmission and do the swap. With your wreck as the donor you could rent an engine lift and do the swap in a weekend.

No, stop.

See a real doctor. If you have a neck or spine injury, you're talking money. I broke a finger, surgery, couple pins, pin removal, hand therapy. You could say $30k and I would just laugh because that's the down payment. I've had back problems in the past and they make my finger surgery look like quarters in the parking meter. Stop worrying about your car and worry about you.

Thanks Zack, I actually picked up my car in your area, I live in Tempe and I got hit where else; AJ. I still haven't got the police report yet, go figure. And I completely agree with everything you said!

For the most part that is my plan. I'm going to give them every receipt i have for my rebuild. However, I know they won't pay me as much money as I have invested (2x KBB value), let alone time. So, unless they give me full value for all my parts + vehicle cost (which they won't) I am going to negotiate the best deal I can that just includes me keeping my car. Which will hopefully give me enough money to pick up a little newer shell, or better yet, one with a blown motor for cheap. Then swap over all the necessary parts, sell off the rest, and then it onto settling for damages, which is a whoooole nother PITA.

Couldn't agree more, fortunately since they carted me off to the hospital right after it happened and they performed a neck x ray as well as a cat scan of my torso it showed no breaks/fractures in my neck or spine. None the less I have had constant lower back pain (worst when standing) since the accident. My chiropractor gave me his same speech, 'A week after the accident and your endorphin's wears off it's like being hit all over again.' To which I'm sure has some merit, but I have an appointment with my family doctor first thing next week to get a referral to a orthopedic clinic. The last thing I want is life long back pain due to other peoples stupidity.

Thanks everyone who has chymed in for the positive words and helpful advice! -Neil

Be real careful what you say on a public forum, don't give the other party's insurance people any information they can and will use in ways that benefit only them. They are smart enough to know a WRX driver may be telling things on a WRX forum. Tell us all about it after it is totally done.

Good luck, they will screw you in any way they can, it's "only business" they will say. Insurance companies and drug companies own the legal system and the people we elect to run it.
