Outback Sport 98 LGT 5spd into a 98 OBS?

I have a 98 2.2L OBS with a bad 5 speed (stuck in 5th gear & won't come out)

I found 5spd 98 2.5L LGT at the junk yard, but its missing the rear diff.

Will this swap work, are the final drives the same, and can I use my rear diff.

Thx in advance,

Barry

Taken from the learning to choose your gear ratios sticky

appears they both have a 4.111 final drive though, so you should be ok, don't quote me on that though.

Might wanna think again..... I bolded the different final drive ratios, and have personally dealt with both transmissions being discussed. Find a 4.11:1 rear diff.....they gotta be around super cheap!

Ahhh....yup. Good to go that way!

I'd take that OBS setup off your hands if I didn't live so stinkin far away......Once you swap it out, pull the broke box apart for a learning experience. You may find a broken shift fork being the only thing to need replaced. Doable by the enthusiast mechanic.
