In the process of turning my narrowbody back to stock.. time to try and upgrade to an 08+ sti or 11+ wrx. Preferably the sti I want the solid 6 speed!

I heard bad things about ring lands in the pistons on 08-10 STI. I would steer clear. I believe the 11+ STI would be your best bet. About a $5k difference but worth it for reliability.

The only justification to get an STi over the WRX was for the GD chassis. There were major differences between the two models. When the GRs came out, there was still enough of a difference to maybe justify the extra $10k in the price tag, but only marginally. The GRs used the stronger gears that they had used in the 05-09 Legacy GTs, which eliminated a lot of the 5spd failures that plagued the GD models. Honestly, the 6spd isn't that great for a DD anyway. If that's the only reason you want an STi, just do a 6spd swap and save yourself the headache of getting into a used Subaru that you know nothing about. Better yet, if you're going to spend that much money, consider getting into the 2015 WRX. It's far superior than all the previous WRX and STi models.

I'm far too honest. And the problem wasn't with the ringlands, that was just the end result. It was the stock Subaru tune. There were severe lean spots in the tune and it would basically just burn the ringlands off the pistons. And then it was bye bye motor. That actually started with the 07 STi. Not as much of a problem as the 08s, but it still was subjected to the horrible stock tune.

Yea ringlands were not the problem it was the tune. Ringlands are just what went due to it. And I don't only want the sti for the 6 speed, but that's a big plus. I want the wider fenders, nicer interior, sunroof, ect. Will be much nicer then my base 2010. . I would take an 11 or newer wrx as well tho with low mileage.. The sti still has a nicer top end and intercooler/ intake manifold then the wrx as well as the better brakes ect..list goes on. If I could find a 10 sti for the price of a 11-14 wrx with low mileage I'd pick it up

And I would love a 2015 wrx but I want to do a built motor and rotated setup in the future so I'm just going to buy used.

It is north of you. I am going to be in Atlantic City or around that area on Friday 8/29 to visit family. I will be in scotch plains mainly for a wedding and to catch up with friends.

You would love an 05. Those are the BEST year for the STI. Best gear ratio in the trans and the least amount of problems with the stock bits. If I found an 05 for a good price, I'd buy it.
