Running a crazy tune right now. What should I do?
So, I got my Subaru tuned here in Houston and the tuner said he used 95***37; duty cycle on the stock 550cc injectors. He also messed with the timing. Don't get me wrong, the tune is amazing and I've had it for about 8 months now and the car runs like a champ. My gas mileage is honestly terrible. This was before I knew much about cars, and lately I've just been hanging out with, lets say, a very automotive group and they have told me that 95% duty cycle is the reason for my terrible gas mileage along with the Cobb Protune for 17psi. They also claim that injectors freak out over 90% duty cycle and literally run fuel ALL the time. The only mods I have are a Walbro 255lph fuel pump and Cobb Protune.
So. My friends told me of two solutions for me to take. The first includes running 650cc injectors so that way they won't be running so hard. I was wondering how you all felt about that? The second includes just getting another tune from MZM and run closer to stock boost, let's say 15 psi on a protune, so that way I have lower duty cycle and better gas mileage (on the stock injectors). So. What would you do in my position? (My car needs to last and run very safe for another year before I sell it) Thank you very much for your suggestions and knowledge, Patrick

how the hell are you running 95***37; idc's with a walbro on the stock turbo @ 17psi is what im wondering.
Either way, it is okay to drive at 95% idc. |

95***37;idc?
hell my buddy with a 18g on his 06wrx stock injectors is only running 80% duty cycle? You tuner must love using fuel, and not timing. |

a) your friends don't know what they are talking about
b) neither do you c) your tuner gave you a nice safe tune. enjoy it. d) WOT max load duty cycles have nearly nothing to do with your daily fuel economy. you want better mpg? stay off the throttle... same as everybody else. |

just to clarify, that wasn't meant as a slam, just a reminder that he is new to this and a basic premise for the advice dispensed in d).

My 04 WRX runs 18-19 psi on stock turbo and injectors on my own Stage 2 tune. The car averages 28+mpg because I know how to keep my foot off the floor. Your car is safe at 17 psi, beyond that is pushing the limits of stock components. |
