Importing a car to Germany(ultimately Austria) from the US. HELP!
Hi all,
So I'm on the verge of accepting one of two jobs in Europe. One in Austria, and one in Germany. I don't even need to begin to describe my attachment to my 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon, so I'm contemplating taking it with me. She is- 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon. 164k miles Stock motor, Stage 2 Cobb tune Cobb Intake Invidia Turbo-Back Catless Exhaust (still have my stocker if I need to swap) Mishimoto Radiator Epic Engineering Springs Tokico D-Spec Struts Whiteline front and rear Swaybars and Endlinks. 18x9 Rota Grids. (I throw this in because I heard that to even swap rims/tires you need some sort of special inspection) My rational is this- I likely cannot sell my car for the value I would like in such short notice. To store my car would cost me 250+ a month, easily a car payment in Europe. Shipping from here to Germany is as low as 2k. To pay for storage and then be able to purchase another vehicle while i'm there is outside of my means. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions as to if I stand a chance at meeting regulations to drive my car legally in Germany/Austria? Is it even worth it? How much am I looking at having to spend to make my car legal there. I can swap to stock exhaust, intake if needed, etc by myself. My bigger worry is the wheels, tires, and suspension work thats been done to the car, and if that could hurt me. Would love people's help!!!!

Ship it you will have a blast with it out here and will benefit you if you go to Austria!!! The AWD due to snow and stuff. The exhaust you should be good. If you don't have a cat on it just swap out with the stock just for emissions the. Put it back on, you can sell it out here you just have to wait 6 months due to customs for Germany. Other than that I would bring a lot if guys were regretting not bringing there's so I would say go for it.

I'm just worried about with all the suspension work I've done, the Cobb Intake, and the wheels, if it will take allot of work and money to get past the initial inspection. Will a US 02 WRX pass EU emissions/visual inspection requirements with the stock US exhaust and a COBB intake? |

Hi all, if anyone has any other helpful feedback I would still appreciate it! Still on the edge of if it will be more of a hassle to import it or not. Cheers!

You should be able to pass shipped mine for 1400 picked it up in Bremerhaven, about 5 hr drive from ramstein, if you have window tint on the front windows it needs to come off. Like I said if you have a stock down pipe that has a cat your good.
Intake your fine, suspension work you should be good if you have the time look up the USAFE vehicle requirements that should give a good idea on what to do. The chatted down pipe is the only big thing, I had no problem with my STi and I Tanabe DF210's so I was good on road clearance and at the military gates, rust, make sure your rust free.... Other that that my man all I got there s a guy on here that works at the inspections out here on ramstein that's on the Forum he could help you out more. |

Your car will need to go back to stock and stay that way while your in Germany. The TUV will kill you with an imported car. Forget what the Mil guys say, as they do not get held to the same level, all they get is a safety/compliance check. If you have one thing that looks out of place they will ask for the Certs for it... and if you cannot produce you will pay upwards of 300+ euros per item.
