Default 17x9 rims for '05 STI

I am looking for 17x9 rims for an '05 STI. Preferably Volk TE37's or Gramlight 57s in Gunmetal or bronze. Anyone have any leads to who may have these or if they are even available?

Thanks

Yes. They will fit. Tire size and offset will be critical. 46-48 offset should work.

yes it will work! offset is what u need to work. i would worry if someone just gives u an offset number here cause offset is contingent on your suspension as well and any diff type of brakes setup u might have and if you have any rolling of the fender done. so with that said, if someone just tells you 48 et or something without knowing your other info ............hmmmm

no it's not. 255/40R17 fits fine on a 17x8.5 so there's no reason it wouldn't fit a 17x9. I don't see where the confusion is.

I am running 17x9 front et 53 with 255/40 toyo ra's and 17x8.5 et 48 rear with the same tires. Lowered with jic coils and there is no rubbing what so ever, even with 4 people in the. Wheels are enkei tarmacs.

It's not a question of it fitting on a wheel, it's a question of 9" wide wheel with 255 fitting inside the wheel wells without rubbing. And saying that it will fit because is fits on 8" wide wheel doesn't help because 8" is not wide enough to properly accomodate 255 tire.

True. A 255 is the correct width tire for the 9" rim. What I meant was, will the 255 properly fit onto the car without rubbing...I should have been a little clearer.

Very good info. Why don't you have 17 x 9 +53 on the rear also?

Thanks

the 9 doesnt fit on the rear without rubbing. i am running rear camber plates pushed all the way in, with white line rear arms to pull the wheel in a little. i'm clearing the coilover by about 3mm and the fender about the same. its very tight fitting setup.

For reference, (as per rays wheels flyer) the GL57S is avail in the following:
17 x 9.5, 5 x 114.3, +12/+22/+38
17 x 8.5, 5 x 114.3, +22/+30/+40
17 x 7.5, 5 x 114.3, +30/+40/+48

You can always contact Mackin Industries out there (562-946-6820) for help.

Short answer is: Yes, you can run 255/40R17 without rubbing if you're putting them on the stock wheels.

reviving an old thread
question: would a 255 tire perform well if it were squeezed onto the stock 17x8? For reference, I am looking specifically at the Advan Neova AD07.

It would fit fine on a 17x8 wheel. A 615 255/40 looks perfect/flush on a stock 17x8 wheel, so a Neova that is just slightly wider than a 615 225 would be fine.

Looking at this nearly two year old thread even a 275 tire will fit on a 17x9 wheel on a sti without rubbing with the proper offset.

I know it would fit, but I am wondering if a 255 Neova would lose some of it's performance capabilities on a 17x8 rim because of the rim's 'narrow' width.

Yes it would. It would perform wayyyy better on a 8.5 or 9 inch wide wheel.

That's what I was thinking. How would a 245/40 do?
