Default 2014 Chevrolet SS V8 from $44,470

Carscoop: http://www.carscoops.com/2013/06/gm-...ased-2014.html

Quote:
Do you miss the Pontiac G8 and can't find a decent used example? GM has you covered as it has re-introduced the revised version of the Holden Commodore-based sports sedan in the States in the guise of the new 2014 Chevrolet SS, pricing of which was announced today before it goes on sale in the fourth quarter of 2013.
Available exclusively in the United States (sorry Canada) with a 6.2-liter V8 paired to a 6-speed automatic (sorry manual gearbox fans), the SS carries an MSRP of $44,470, including a $995 destination charge, which makes it cheaper than a similarly powered BMW 5-Series model, but on the same level as the smaller and less powerful 300hp 335i sedan ($44,075 with destination).

And if you're wondering, the rear-wheel drive and soon to be replaced by a newer and sexier looking model 2013 CTS with the 318hp 3.6L V6 starts at $44,235.

The rear-wheel drive-only Chevrolet SS easily beats both these models in power with its LS3 6.2-liter V8 that's rated at 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque (563 Nm) for a 0 to 60 mph (96km/h) time of about five seconds – despite the difference in power, the smaller 335i completes the sprint in 5.4 sec. with a manual gearbox and in 5.1 sec. with an auto transmission.

Chevrolet will only offer a single trim level for the SS, with the only options available being a power-operated sunroof ($900) and full-size spare tire ($500).

Among other standard features included in the package are Automatic Parking Assist, Chevrolet MyLink with a color touch screen and navigation, color head-up display, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and ventilated front seats with memory, Side Blind Zone Alert and Lane Departure Warning, Brembo front brakes and 19-inch wheels in 245/40 tires up front and 275/35ZR at the back.

The new SS will be available only in five exterior colors namely, Mystic Green, Silver Ice Metallic, Red Hot 2, Phantom Black Metallic and Heron White, with all interiors in Jet Black

On par with a well equipped SHO or Charger/300 SRT-8. Not saying I'd pay for it, the new Impala looks better...actually the old G8 GXP looked better too.

Now build a smaller 2 door version, 300lbs lighter, with a 6 speed manual, call it a Chevelle SS and offer it at $38,000.

Manual and higher 30's would have had me considering it next year when it had some rebates to get it into the lower 30's.

The bad thing is the high line of this with the supercharged V8 and manual will be in the 50's easy.

I think the front view looks great. from what I can tell from the side view, it's a little bland. But I will have to say I am really digging that interior. Looks really nice, especially for a chevy. I will also have to agree with the others on the price range of high 30's or 40 even.

You're paying strictly for the engine. Way too much for not a lot.

It will be a very nice car I am sure, just not much fun without a 6 speed, and little bit of a let down on performance(due more to weight and size). But it will be a solid well built car(made by Holden not Chevy), where my WRX is more like a noisy thin sheet metal beer can(due to trying to save weight) on wheels.

I just don't understand a car like this.....it could have been so much more, even a DCT would have made more sense. I just don't see this thing selling that many units; GM will then stop making it and blame it on lack of consumer appeal.

Believe me I really thought they would have brought the GTO back, as say a Chevelle SS, with better suspension, the new LS3 or LT1 motor, and wider fenders(for better wider tires) would have made more sense then this. How many people who bought the last model Impala SS would want this mid to high $40K car? Not many...

So somebody who cares enough about GM tell me this.

Is this the EXACT same chassis as the G8 was?

The interior is far better than the G8 interior was. This one has a bit of glitz. Still, 44k is too much money. When you get north of 40k, people start to look at that bowtie and think... For a Chevy that dies not say Corvette on it?

I will hold out judgement for the reviews of how it handles. Not expecting much.

I was waiting on the GXP 6 speed, but before I could even go look, they went out of business. Not sure if I would have liked it or not, I did as you know love the GTO though. Holden-Australia really knows what they are doing, it will be a fairly decent car, but don't expect much performance out of it without some work, and with that price tag its going to get expensive. This formula basically reminds me of the mid 90's Chevy Caprice SS.

When I re-programmed the one in the G8 I had, I was able to chirp 1st and 2nd with just enough slip/power. Floor it in the rain, you're asking for trouble. The programming in this car should be much better. The AT in this car is the same one out of the Corvette. It's not that bad, at all. It's not a performance car. It's a family sedan on steroids.

50/50 weight distribution is all a car needs to be fun (and which the G8 and this car is), no matter what the weight. It's not a nose heavy car. It's very well balanced and handles really well.

This. Hopefully, just not with the same butter-soft wheels the G8 had.

It's limited production anyways, so they'll more than likely sell every single one they make. I think something like 3k-5k units/year.

No. The G8 was on the Holden/VE chassis. This is the newer Holden/VF chassis that was introduced late last year down under.

How much is a C7 Vette now? $50+K?

Not trying to be the SS apologist, but... the VE chassis was well sorted, had some great composure through the twisties, and fantastic on the highway for short/long drives and commuting. If it wasn't for the craptacular roads bending my wheels all the time around here and more importantly - A-Arms as a wear item (which I beleive they fixed with the VF), I'd probably still have my G8.

However, I do like the $$ I'm saving in car payment, gas and insurance (Snow tires + AWD and 5sp for *spirited* winter driving... the G8 was great on Conti DWSs for commuting back and forth, but it's no SUbaru on snow tires).

No matter what they do, they cannot overcome the weight issue, when you decide to transition from left to right quickly, that weight is going to be an issue.

Well that begs the question.

How much does it actually weight

Certain cars are good at hiding their weight. (EVO and GTR come to mind)
