Question Strange electric sounding whistle from area near the rear diff

I took a test drive in my car after I installed the rear sway bar to see how it was... I left the rear seats off.

Anyway, I turned on the car, and there was a really wierd high-pitch sound coming from the center area of the car underneeth... I dont know if its been there before or not, but I could definatly hear it now. I havent tried it again with the seats back on, but I will tommorow...

Anyone hear this before, or know about it?

sounds like your fuel pump.. Haven't really paid attention but it may continue to circulate for a few minutes after the car is off. Have seen them do this before to prevent the fuel from boiling in the fuel rail.

I had a noise simalur to a whistle when I had my back seats out. I know that mine was the fuel pume. If you get in the car after an overnight , or it has been sitting for quite a while, you turn the key to the run position, and if you listen closely the fuel pump will start to circulate and pressurize the system (befoe you turn the key all the way to start). Another oddity is that after about 1.5-2.0 seconds you can hear a noise like the car is peeing into a pool of water. I think that it is just some air bubbles being expelled from the return line. It only lasts less than a second, but its kind of funny.

Just to echo what everyone else said, it's the fuel pump. I can hear mine even with the seats in, but I have a high flow pump for the turbo.

Question I think that...

Its gotta be the fuel pump pressurizing the system and another thing...Does anyone hear the sound of water falling from the front of the car when it has just started...Sounds like its somewhere in the firewall?

Remeber that your heater core is under the dash, and the coolant runs through it. That's probably what you're hearing

You can easily hear the water sound from under the dash right after you drain and refill your coolant - sounds like somebody is gargling. I had to ask myself "What the hell?" right after I changed my coolant.

yeah...most people would freak out if they heard water running around in their cabin.. I know i would. Then i'd proceed to tear the car apart.

You know acctually I have heard that sound too. I saw a thread a while back where people came to the conclusion that it is the rear differential. Does it get louder the faster you go? Almost sound like a faint Jet engine taking off? Thats what it is. Don't know why, don't remember what they said in the post but thats probably the sound you are hearing. It wasn't bad or anything it was just the sound it makes.

Default strange sound

i have the same fluttering sound in my 2001 RS. i have not changed the coolant, and the car has only about 4000 miles on it....i have tried to locate the sound, and it seems to be near the front of the car...i only noticed the sound cause i didnt have the radio on for some reason, so i dont know if it was always there or not, but i think i would have noticed it before....it is a very faint sound though and i dont know what it is either.
