Hey guys, my names Tyler I'm from johnson city,I recently traded my Blue 06 2.5i for a red 02 wrx, lower miles than my 06, maint records and completely stock. I look forward to chatting

Also, one question for those familiar with the DMV system, my temp reg expires on 1/6 and I still have not gotten my permanent stickers in the mail yet, is this something I should go to the DMV and try and figure it out? So far my online searching hasn't given me much info

Just wait it out they should be there soon.

If you have to go too the DMV, go to the one in endicott. they are very easy going there and less of a line...

Ian,
Just got it in the mail, Endicott and binghamtons DMV are both crappy. Do you guys do any area meets. I'd like to start getting active in the subie scene as opposed to having to hangout with the "jdm" Honda kids.

We used to meet a bunch, but a couple of the regulars moved away and another sold his subie and got a sex change... we should all get together again some time though.

The "jdm" Honda kids suck, that's why you don't see any subies at their meets! Even the Barnes and Nobles meet has gotten bad!

LOL Evan thats good about the sex change... I remember when sean approached me thinking I was dan selling the wrx. Then he entered the lions den. hahaha, Oh how times have changed.

Yeah I used to live up there but landed a job at a shop on Long Island.

Meets can be tough up there.

Yeah, minus the kid I work with and one or two of his friends that appreciate Subies and realize that they're great cars, I can't stand any of em the killer bee exhausts and the bright pink rims are just to much "swag" for me.

I'm down, I'd like to start learning more about these cars and modding them since they're a completely different animal than the norm.

Ian,
Thanks, I've gone through and atleast skimmed alot of the manifestos when I got my 06, but I'm learning very quickly that turbo Subaru's are a whole different animal. So far ive Swapped my short throw, front and rear strut bars(not that they do much) and rear endlinks over from the 06

Getting other maintenance things done(tranny and diff fluid, PCV, and plugs), all I have left is clean the MAF, put in my new fuel filter, find somewheres not the dealer that has HP power steering lines, since mine at the fitting is starting to dribble, and I "should" be set for a while.

Other than that my only real plans for the car are full suspension rack and diff bushings, then up and down pipe and catback

Looking at an accessport since I don't really want/need a protune at this point, since atleast for now, plus I like being able to monitor things easily( plus I don't really know how to read data logs that much yet, if you have any readings of things of that nature id appreciate it.)

I don't really wanna get into major power upgrades at this point, shes my daily, i dont have the knowledge/ finances and I don't wanna be another 20yr old who gets in over my head with a car thats too powerful, and the "I'm gonna live forever complex" and ends up hurting myself.

With just an up/downpipe you'll be fine starting on the 2.0L stg2 base map I've whored out around bingo. Much cheaper than an accessport (as in free) and has pulled timing across the board so it's more than safe till you get a Wideband on it.

Edit: forgot to say welcome to the group

That's a pretty ballsy statement from a guy who's fiancé had him neutered quite some time ago

Nothing like approaching a guy thinking you're going to be talking about a car for sale and instead meeting a guy who says "you've never been in a Subaru? Ill take you for a ride! I just need to buy condoms first." At lead I knew he was safe

Brendan, whos 2.0 did you tune other then your own? Did you build it from the ground up or copy and paste parts of other peoples maps From the RomRaider forums? Id love to see you timing map. These motors need timing. People try tuning them like a Nissan etc. Timing and fuel is what makes a happy suby. Ive seen more scoobs knock do to, too little timing vs too much. Seeing how cars react on the dyno everyday helps get a solid idea of whats really going on vs theorizing as thats what a guy told me on the forum.

Not too sound rash but it scares me when people start pulling timing. Maybe in the last few columns were you extend load. Normally on cruising conditions the engine wants and need More timing as now its flowing more.

Also not to start ripping on tuners, but whats up with these torquedperformance tunes.

Ive never personally meet the guy but the cars we have had on the dyno where not impresive at all. Infact it was normally scary. Dave and I look at each other think that we cant believe someone said it was good to go. :-( I hear the guy is super nice and speedy on map revisions. Alot of people say their car run great. Im just telling what Ive seen on the street and or on our mustang dyno.

Evan Id love to hook up my wideband and see how your car is reacting to the tune. I cont car what anyone says, there is no safe way to tune a car for wot or even a heavey foot with out a wideband. Even a stg2 2.0. If guy cant spend 200 bucks on a wideband then set it up for use on multiple cars I would be scared. If your gonna play the game do do it halfass.

Sure we did things a lil differently years ago but times have change also whats needed for a safe propper tune.

Im deff not saying Brendan can set up a good map because I know he can. Just the lack of a wideband scares me.

On a side note we hit 550whp in a stock location sti I built from the ground up. we can hit 650 once i put a bigger fuelpump in. a Aeromotive 340 wired off the battery wasnt big enough. Dave really got the ID2000cc injectors to idle like glass for a fully build motor...

It's a base map on romraider. I've used it on 7 or 8 now, lost count. It's reduced timing so you can add in with your own logs but it does fine as is.

Unrelated note, my sti finally idles correctly. Turns out it takes e85, a protune and a professional amateur tune to get it happy.

^ That stage2 map was a testes tune right? I used one of his on my old wrx which was decent other than not being able to hit target boost.

Back to the tuning questions, a wideband as in wideband 02 sensor? I'll add it to the list, anything else special I'd want/need to up reliability?

One other question my car has 94k on it, is now to late to switch to t6 5-40 since it is a synth and I don't know if the P.O. used that or Dino stuff, I'm concerned with the whole rumor that it makes seals leak if conventional has always been used, I've heard both just was hoping to get something from someone whos actually done it.

Newer oils and engines aren't subject to the same rules like it used to be. Lots of good info over on bobistheoilguy.com

Bone stock, Miller did Timing belt idler and water pump too was talking to one of the lot kids who recon's the cars, he said he went to Matthews and picked up the parts for it, hooray OEM

R-L: thanks, I am loving her. My brother(who has a turbo'd Civic thats quick as his weekender) drove it and is now looking to buy one for himself and give his truck to his fiance.
