On Feb 6, 2002 SOA introduced the 2nd gen Forester to North America at the 2002 Chicago Auto Show (see http://www.fhi.co.jp/english/news/pr...2/02_02_07.htm). As far as I can determine, that was the first official public display of the 2nd gen Forester anywhere in the world. Just six days later FHI annouced via press release the Japan debut of the 2nd gen Forester (see http://www.fhi.co.jp/english/news/pr...2/02_02_12.htm). The 3rd gen Forester was, indeed, announced without the benefit of an auto show press conference (see http://www.fhi.co.jp/english/news/pr...07_12_25e.html). The announcement and the first day of sale in Japan were on the same day, Dec 25, 2007 (Christmas day???). I'm not sure how one can conclude that "[t]he Forester normally does not have an unveiling at a car show."

If there was one, then there wasn't one, that's 50/50, so you couldn't say "normally doesn't have one" (or even "normally does") at that point.

The 3rd gen introduction was an anomaly? Also, I'm fairly certain the 1st gen Forester debuted at the 1997 NAIAS in Detroit, a month before it went on sale in Japan. So that means 3 out of 4 Forester new-gen introductions occurred at a motor show press conference (or 4 out of 4 if you buy SOA's propaganda about the 3rd gen).

Did it have an unveiling presentation or just a press release? |

Enthusiasts watch all of that for a WRX (it's a WRX after all). Forester buyers are usually a different audience is what I'm assuming justifies their public response.

Either way, I am very excited for the 2014 Forester. I have a very good feeling that one may end up in my family's driveway to replace the MDX.
I will miss the hood scoop. I assume that the XT will have a TMIC and similar ducting as the XV Diesel. |

^Could be true. The spy photos show a bulge in the center of the hood.

The thing that kills it for me is all the chrome trim. Sheesh, my eyes hurt just looking at that. Hopefully that is only for the limited. |

I'm really hoping Subaru offers a 'Sport' grille like the current Forester. Looks WAY better with the body colored surround piece vs. the giant chrome look-into-my-soul grille that's on the '14...

Forester is really appearing to be a snore... I wanted it to be a bit more impressive, or at least interesting.
Another appliance to compete for the same appliance buyers that every other (larger) car company is going after, also. WRX/STI is the last hope, nothing else remains for Subaru AWD lineup to interest an enthusiast. |

It's called "investment". They're investing in the new customers to make new money, then BAM! Hit us with the STI line-up for ALL models!

Sorry if this has already been answered but I havent been following this thread. I noticed on some pics there are airdams on the left and right of the front bumper near the fog lights. There are also some pics without them. Is this some kind of trim diferentiation?
I actually kind of like these air dams, makes it look a bit more aggresive. ****Nevermind on the answer, just did some reading**** Last edited by Otobot; 10-16-2012 at 10:24 PM. |
