3M: 3 Step Buffing.
I work at a Nissan Dealership and we just got in this awesome 3M 3 step buffing process. This process will nearly eliminate all swirl marks (excluding the deep gouges) My mom owns a 2008 MDX and it was black and littered with swirl marks, a good buddy of mine used this 3 step on it and It was AMAZING! except for all the deep marks the paint looked brand new. Fresh off the showroom floor. I will try and get pictures of the MDX up soon so you guys can see it. Unfortunately I dont have a before picture.

I tried it, but was just not that impressed with 3m's buffing compounds. I do recommend Wizards compound, polishes and sealants, though. They are very good for their price, and the smell is a great addition, especially from when I used Meguiar's less than pleasant smelling supplies.

^^^^^^ ***8230;.this (although without before pictures, it's a bit of a moot point). Also, specifics regarding this "new 3 step process" (what steps, tools & products it involves) would help as well as comparisons to similar items you have used in the past.
I'll be honest though***8230;. I'm more than a little apprehensive regarding "detailing" practices in general when it comes to dealerships. |

I have to get pictures, but it comes in a kit they give you a dewalt buffer, 2 whool (spelling) pads, 2 sponge pads, and 3 bottles of compound from what I remember.I'll try and get pads as soon as possible. Sorry again for not having pics up right away. But like I said I don't have before pictures. I'll try and take a couple pictures of a different car before and after.

whool rofl!
How much did the package run you? Seems like a pretty legit kit... for being 3M. Might be hard to replace it over a PC tho... They are pretty cheap. Does the buffer have a clutch style head so it won't wreck the paint? |

I’m guessing this “package” is what is bundled for places like the dealership the OP works at. However, (as mentioned before) there is really no point to this thread without knowing all of the details of this “3-step process” (since 3M makes a lot of different products) and seeing before & after pictures. |

ive always used 3m products for post painting buffing. Ive always had outstanding results. I love their products. Expensive, but well worth it.
If something needs to be sanded and buffed. Ill hit it with 1500, than 2k paper. I tend to stay away from wool pads on fresh paint for the simple fact they cut way quicker than foam pads. I stick with a white pad and some extra cut compound, than switch to a black foam pad and either machine glaze/ finesse -it/ or foam pad polish depending on what I have on hand. Than finish her off with some super fine blue polish. BLANGGGGGY BLANG. Mirror finish every time. |

Are you talking about the 3M Perfect-it compounds and polish? I use tha tat work and dont care for it, very messy. I like Menzerna better.

definitely agree with you on that one, it is a very messy set of products, alot of sling even when you barely use any product. Thats definitely the downside, Ive always had fantastic results from it but your definitely right, it is one messy system.
