Taking Off Turbo
I've been contemplating it and I was wondering what does it actually encompass? Do I have to reroute all the oil and coolant lines? I would like to keep the oil pan there but for some reason doesn't seem feesible. Tell me what you guys did to get everything off nice and clean and back to stock form without maybe hassles. Thanks
Benny

you probably have oil return lines to deal with going to the oil pan and feed lines off the block or head.
is your turbo water cooled as well? maybe you can post up your set up so we know what we are dealing with? Jay |

It's a Ludespeed Stage 1 kit, nothing really special. I know I would have to take out the parallel fuel mod, but as for coolant and oil lines what people normally do? If the turbo wasn't there so to speak where would these lines go? Would they even exist? Just seeing how hard the job would be and contemplating. Thanks

The feed and return lines would not exist. there woudl be galley plug were the feed line would comes off and the oil pan would not be tapped for the return.

As Jay stated, do that for the oil lines.
As for the waterlines, the lines that go into the firewall (where the heatercore is), are the ones that the Ludespeed taps to with a T connector. All you need to do is remove them (2 of them, one in and one out) and connect the hoses back together again. Simple. |

Re: Taking Off Turbo

I had a Ludespeed Stage II on my Outback Sport. What you'll have to remove are these lines.... 1: Oil feed to and from turbo. You'll have to either replace or plug up the oil return on the oil pan. I plugged mine with a rubber stopper (not recommened). I purchased a plug from a hardware store to screw into the top of the block where the oil feed line was. If you still have your stock block plug, use that. 2: Water feed and return hoses to and from turbo. I was 'lazy' and I plugged both of the hoses with a rubber plug (not recommended). You shoulud be able to remove these hoses which go to a 'T' fitting in the coolant lines. You should be able to but in a straight fitting to replace the 'T' fittings. 3: Your vacuum lines for your crankcase and your PCV valve. I left mine on there and when I put on a Minnam intake, I simply plugged up two of the 3 vacuum ports on the intake. It's working fine but it's not the proper way to do this. You need to remove the crankcase lines on both sides of the engine and the rubber hoses going to the PCV and I think the IAC valve. All those hoses need to be replaced with the stock rubber vacuum hoses. 4: Remove uppipe, downpipe, and cat converter. If you still have your stock header to axle echaust piping, you'll need to put this in place of the turbo exhaust piping. New exhaust gaskets are recommended but may not be necessary. I'm at work now and can't think of anything off the top of my head. I did this by myself and have been driving around for thousands of miles. The most I've done before this is change spark plug wires. Take your time. It's a lot more simpler than you may think but can be a little time consuming if you are not all that familiar with things. I'm actually confident I can install a kit now after seeing what's involved as long as it's a bolt on affair. Good luck! Oh...I still have my turbokit. I had to get the turbo rebuilt because the seals were blown. It's just sitting in my garage waiting to be put back on. Since I left the oil pan hose, both turbo coolant hoses and the vacuum lines in place, it'll make things a LOT easier and quicker for reinstallation. |
