Default Any one else with factory STI HID's have one go out?

Just called a local dealer to get a new HID bulb replaced. I'm hoping it's a no issue case as it seems odd my HID went out. The guy I spoke with said this is the first time he's heard of one going out. Just trying to get my ducks in a line. Anyone else have a bulb go out? The center piece in the bulb burst (I took a look at it).

Thanks.

A bulb failure like this is unusual, but as long as you have not modified your lights it should be covered under warranty. However if you have opened the lights to clear them and failed to reseal them properly, resulting in water intrusion, you will be SOL.

Well don't be surprised if your warranty claim is denied because of the mods. In this case you don't really have an argument since the lights were in fact modified.
Should you need to pay for a new bulb yourself, don't buy it from the dealer where they will charge you something like $150 per bulb. Look online where you can find genuine OEM-grade D2S bulbs (Philips, Hella, Osram) for around $60/pair. Just be sure they are the real deal and not aftermarket knockoffs.
And check the lights carefully, if they need to be resealed do so ASAP before ruining another bulb.
If the light still doesn't work with a new bulb (you can also try the bulb from the other side), first check the fuse and if it's good the ballast may be NG.

I could be wrong but Caesar has a warrenty on his work doesn't he? If the painting service can be proven to be the cause of the bulb failure I wouldn't be surprised if he sets you up with a new one or makes it right by you one way or the other.

Just had a driver side hid stop working on my 04 sti, lights have never been taken apart or even had bulbs put in anywhere in the headlight. Been in the car since I bought it new, 55,300 miles ago.

It tries to turn on but flickers a few seconds dim and goes out. I'm going to switch the bulbs from side to side tonight but I'm thinking a ballast. errr
$143.96 for one buld from subaru
$308.62 for one ballast.

I'm hoping it's a bulb since Phillips can be had for around $60/pair
If it's a ballast can you use anything other than oem subaru?

Switched the bulbs in my car tonight from side to side and thank god the pass side is now out and the driver works. So aparently i have something wrong with the one bulb.

The only thing I noticed is in the part of the light that looks like it bubbles out, is darker in the side that was not working so i'm guessing it blew out or something along those lines. Either way I am that it is just the bulb!

I must have exceeded the 2000Hr rating on the driver side bulb

My wife drives an '05 9-2X with factory HIDs. One of the factory bulbs blew recently. They were never modified.

Conveniently, we sell replacement capsules, HERE.
