i run open down pipe basically. I have a catless up pipe and down pipe..and the cut out is right after the down pipe and before the 3rd car. 106db's at idle, 116db's wide open throttle(inside the car with windows up and doors closed)

no cats
I have a vishnu uppipe and next week I'm installing a HKS downpipe to replace two more cats (I'm getting rid of a stromung 3rd cat eliminator).
Teamed up with a Borla muffler I think is going to be too loud. God could you please chime in about shooting flames..? I don't think I really want to do that. Oh yeah and it will probably smell horrible huh? ~Evan |

Yes, it will smell horrible. My 91 300ZXTT -cats smelled like crap, and you'd faint if you hung around the back of the car too long. Fast though

I have the stromung dp and 3rd cat elim with a ultim. racing up pipe. I love the way it sounds. Its not too loud with the stock muffler, but definitely louder than stock. My brother's rex is totally stock on the exhaust side, and I parked mine next to his running, and you couldn't even hear his car. It is a definite increase in loudness, but not what you would get with any aftermarket muffler. I like the increased throatiness of it. I'm gonna have someone drive off in my car so I can hear the exhaust from the outside. Its not too much louder inside with the windows up, but I might not notice bc my up pipe hits a crossmember anytime I accelerate, and that drowns out just about everything.

ATR catless up, Stromung catless DP & 3rd cat eliminator, OE resonated mid, and Prodrive rear section. Oh, and STI engine / trans mounts.
It's loud. Especially with the AC on, under load. Damn it sounds good. More like, "healthy." Mine shoots flames as well. I've got to keep off the gas hard in the neighborhood late at night coming home.... Still not bad most of the time. It really all depends on how much you roll into the throttle. Of which you can't help. Jim Last edited by MackDaddy; 08-05-2002 at 12:11 AM. |

the sound 'mostly' comes from the catback. If you like the way a certain catback sounds, just imagine it alittle louder/deeper/stronger when its paired up to a completely catless downpipe.
ahh reminds me of that daft punk song, harder better faster stronger... |

I have M2 stuff throughout with no cats. It is very tame SPL-wise, but does rumble.

Has anyone in california done this? I have a blitz nur spec exaust w/ silencer and just bought a catless downpipe do you think it will pass their noise ordinance law of 89 decibals? I would say right now w/ just the catback its at about 50 dbs.

For God
Have you tried your setup with the Kakimoto silencer option? I like the GT1 OZ but I don't want to keep the neighbors up or attract any attention from the boys in blue.
Thanks, Joel |

yeah, I drove my JIC Ti the other day with the silencer in and it's a lot quieter than with it out. I would say if you want the car to be at all streetable with a catless N1 straight-through style exhaust get a silencer.
Of course I love the popping and scream of the catless exhaust now though |

I have an apexi n1 and turbo back with uppipe as well. My domestic friends thought my car was a v8 when they first heard it. its quite loud and poppy and lots of flames. my burnt bumper gets the worst of it. =)
With the silencer the sound is considerably quieter and the cars considerably slower. =| |
