Is Best Buy the rice capital of the world? (somewhat OT)
I had to pick up an ink cartridge for the trusty (?) Lexmark so I headed to Best Buy, where we bought the thing.
I live in NC, so I'm more likely to see potatoes than rice (so to speak). But this...this was incredible. I counted five Honda/Acura rice mobiles. A green civic EX with clear rears and a "VTEC" sticker stuck on...an ugly red GS-R with a huge exhaust and a yellow "racing" stripe down the back (and VTEC stickers)...a red Honda civic with clear rears/corners (god knows what model)...a Nissan 240 with an enormous muffler and stock everything (not too ricey)...and another Teg with a big tip and Type R badges. So where's the rice center for everyone else? Besides the local illegal "drag strip" or whatever they're using to race (it varies here).

we don't have much rice out here. There is one car tho. The driver has decals out the @$$, and all he's done to the car is lower it (chop the springs), and toss on some cheap rims. How do I know? I was at the Midas shop when he pulled up, the guy who was working on mine did the work to his. He said it was funny 'cause he had all those stickers, and when he investigated the car before he did the spring work it was stock. The quote for the springs were "too high" for him, so the guy chopped 'em for cheap as a "favor". The guy said he hated Honda's too, that's why he chopped 'em.

Overtime, I work at Best Buy, and there is definitely something about electronics that attracts the carbohydrate crowd. I have one kid I work with who owns a completely stock Ford Probe (except for a three foot diameter GT oval on the back window) who says he kills Rustang 5.0's and Corvettes all the time. That's kind of funny, because I can't kill an LT1 vette but I kick his ass out on Route 28 on a weekly basis- he still doesn't give up though. We've also had/have Neons, a civic 3 door, a Tiburon (yes Hyundai), and one acura, all belonging to employees I'm afraid. The customer's cars only get worse from there.

The reason the RICE Boys/girls are at Best Buy is cause they don't want to spend real money on their car. Thats why they put ever sticker imaginable on it to make it look better/faster. They go there to find cheap deals on car audio stuff. Where else can you get two subs for the price of one .
keep on ricing. It'll make my car look even better |

In defense of the Integra's you saw. If they were the GSR, or Typer R models they do have VTEC so I wouldn't consider having VTEC stickers on them to be rice. The GSR and Type R both have better acceleration than the 2.5rs. Handling wise, the Type R blows just about anything away(AWD,FWD,RWD doesn't matter), and the GSR is comparable to the 2.5rs so I wouldn't knock the VTEC cars. Obviously, the 2.5rs would have better acceleration on ice or gravel, but thats about the only thing I'd favor the Impreza for. Plus the 2.5 is just as ricey as a lot of cars out there, high wing, hood scoops that do nothing for performance.
Sorry if people think this is a flame, but I'm just stating the facts. I do love the Impreza, and cant wait for the Turbo version to arive to back up those aggressive looks. |

in san diego the local, frys electronic "superstore" is all rice in the parking lot. It seems like every kid that works in there is a ricer. Find a bunch of low paying jobs and teenagers and I can almost gaurantee riced out hondas and domestics. I work for an internet company and the nicest cars here are porsches, ferrari's and a m5

over here at the Best Buy in rockville, maryland, ive seen quite a few ricers around... my theory though: at least at this particular best buy, theres a stereo installation shop right inside the best buy parking garage (not really part of it i believe)... most riceboys tend to be serious audiophiles, complementing the "drop n thump" motif with chopped springs and 400-watt subs
and thus, you have my explanation of the riceboy conglomeration at best buy, hehe, no applause, please |

I believe one, big reason people do this to their vehicles is for attention. When a car drives by with stickers all over it and a huge wing it does not matter if it is real. Almost everyone looks and talks about it. Thus they have achieved their goal (we cant stop talking about them ). They dont care that its all fake. They get the looks whether its people that dont know its fake or us (who ridicule it). I try to ignore them as much as possible. But hey, thats just my opinion. I would rather be sharing G-tech times.

heh you punk...i shop at best buy Seriously though, i do buy all my cd's there, thanks to a friends nice employee discount, and that is where i got my stereo setup, it wasn't cheap mind you, i dropped a mid range 4 figure sum into it. But anyway, i had them order my stuff, and i wanted stuff i wouldn't have to worry about much, so i went with the "ricer" stuff, but my amp IS rally blue.

It's not about rice necessarily.
Well, okay, it is about rice. But more about Best Buy. Close it if you want, Alex (or Robert). |

I think the attention thing is a big part of it. But mostly I was marvelling at them all being at Best Buy...like some sort of rice haven. Ugh.
On the VTEC stickers...I understand the GS-R has the VTEC system. I was just amazed at how mamny times the guy had to remind us. |
