1990 mercury topaz. Crap. Bought used constantly lost a cylinder on the highway. In the winter it was like driving on banana peels. Ac didn't work and most hoses were held with tape. Radiator replaced twice and thermostat was faulty. Base model.

Plastic Fantastic 2000 Saturn L-series. No AC, CD player didn't work, back doors originally didn't open so I fixed those with 100lb test fishing line, heater fan packed it in over the winter and so did the muffler a few months later. Check engine light constantly on for a different code every week, low coolant light always on (the sensor was actually done, cheapest I could find was $200 for a sensor so I just put a piece of electrical tape over it. RPM gauge was off (apparently it idled at 0 RPM lol) Gas gauge was never correct, temperature gauge no longer worked. Gas filler door flew off on the highway at some point. Most speakers were blown before I bought it, put in cheapo's as replacement, found out whoever did the wiring on the previous speakers used hockey tape instead of electrical tape. mysterious quarter sized dent on the roof beside the passenger's A pillar (but popped out like someone punched from the inside of the car) Transmission was beginning to go before I sold it "as is" (yes i actually managed to sell it and got more for it than what I paid ($500). 265,000km when sold.

I used a 99 Blazer for 2 winters instead of driving my '06. Blew the motor up 2 times and got it stuck numerous times. Currently looking for another pos to have fun with this winter.

95 Eclipse GSX. Bought it when I was 18, had some pretty big mods done and I had very limited knowledge of mechanics at the time. Greddy 18g, stage 2 cryotreated trans, 6 bolt swap, stuff along those lines. On the way home from purchasing (about an hr drive) the charge piping fell off before the MAF. Shut the car down and I stood on the side of the highway for 20min trying to put it together without tools. One day I was cleaning the inside of the car and didn't know there was a power box under the passenger seat that was very ****tily wired...wires touched and a small fire occurred under the seat...luckily caught that in time. Then a day later the fuel line broke off the rail while driving. Then within 2 weeks of bringing it home the timing belt snapped. Took me about 1-2 months to figure out how to fix that. By the time it was done I was leaving home for school and stored the car over winter. Brought it out next summer ran it for a few days and the motor seized. Took that entire summer to do the motor swap. Summer after that...first trip to gas station and something poked a hole in my oil pan...swap pans and then it turns out the motor that we put in had a broken ringland...burned oil like a mofo. Sold it for $2,000 as is and saved up for the rest of the year and bought my beloved WRX. Couldn't be happier with my decision.

1991 Acura Integra
The crappiest car I have ever owned was a red 1991 Acura Integra a few years ago. I bought this car used from a guy who smoked constantly but I needed a car to finish my last semester of university.
Anyways the car was salvaged, had been put back together with parts from other Acuras and it always rattled. The automatic seatbelts (remember those?) would never work right lol till I finally tried to fix it and ended up breaking them. The engine always turned on but you never knew what mood it would be that day. All doors/hinges in that car would creak or refuse to open, the electronics seemed to have a mind of their own. The engine was some kind of replacement engine but some amateur had installed it so things kept going wrong with it. The car had springs and shocks from a newer integra on it and so the front end was higher than the rear. Oh and the rears had 14 inch wheels and the fronts had 17s. All tires on the car were different. Oh and 3rd gear always grinded so I tended to skip it altogether and used to go from 2nd to 4th lol. The clutch slipped a little as well but not too bad. Eventually it rained and all the water got inside the car (under the dash) and soon stuff started growing inside it. It was horrible smelling (think cigarettes and mold/fungus) and I cleaned it out as best as I could and sold it to some 30 yr old guy who was going to fix it up for $600. Last thing I heard about that car was one day my friend sent me a picture of it broke down on the side of the road and some teenager was staring at the engine bay... |

I had a 1986 Toyota Cargo Van (seriously, that was the name. It didn't have fancy name, all business) that my parents bought new. The color? Brown, with yellow stripes of some sort down the sides. Looked kinda like this:
Only I didn't have the windows that slid open. Yes, it was a cab-over van, but it was effectively heated seats in the winter.....and in the summer. The headliner was held up with thumbtacks, and both rear panels had large dents in them. I tried to bash them back out with a sledge hammer once, didn't work out. The back latch didn't work, so I had it strapped down with some bungie cords. Came out to find my two friends had snuck into it while I was at work to surprise me. One of them went, "you sure this is SubyDrewski's car?" The other just twanged the bungee, "Pretty sure." I had it up to a whopping 86 mph once, thought it would shake itself to pieces. Big rear area, so big that my Dad took the seats out once and loaded it with mulch. I was always finding little chips we had missed when I would load/unload the seats. But all-in-all, it wasn't TOO bad. It ran like a tank for 300K miles, then the brakes went once and for all and away went "The Shaggin' Waggin' ". -Drew |

The "crappiest" car I've owned would be my first car, a 1988 Toyota Corolla. It had about 220,000 miles on it when I bought it with funds from my after school job. The previous owner had already replaced the motor with a used motor from the junkyard not long before I bought it. It was carburated so it took some work to get it to crank on cold mornings. The shocks and just about every possible bushing were shot. It overheated and left me stranded on the way to take a final exam in college one day. It had a crappy 3 speed automatic transmission that made me hate automatics so much that I have never owned another automatic since then. It was bare basic in every way with manual windows and locks and a tape deck radio with only two 3" speakers under the front dash. It taught me to work on cars as I was replacing small things all the time to keep it going. The transmission finally broke and brought the car to a screeching halt at about 250,000 miles. I had the transmission rebuilt, repainted the car and sold it for more than I paid. In all fairness it was a high mileage car with an unknown history before I owned it, so I wouldn't say that the car itself was crappy... but it gave me more trouble than any other car I've ever owned. |

Paid $50 for one of these in 2001, put roughly $1500 in it to get it running.
Gotta love Ohio for not having any kind of vehicle inspections. Met its demise when the awesome swing axle decided it wanted a separation from the car. Due to rust, under the state of the art rust protection of; hope no one notices we didn't paint this part of the car. Sorry dsn112; The worst paint goes to any Chrysler product form the 80's to mid 90's The stuff flew off as you drove the car. Not just the clear, but the color too all the way to the base. 93 civic hatch with turbo........ What a pain..... But mostly my fault I was very young and just learning about cars.... was a long, hard, expensive lesson. " yeah JB weld will hold the oil return line flange just fine" I def learned quick not to listen to they guy how thinks its a good idea to cut springs instead of buying buying new ones. But was a fun ar for a couple days until i bent some valves and oil return line exploded. now that i think about it I was a crappy owner...... 2 subies ive owned after that car are only handled with love and care.

Tie between a brown tank of a 1984 Oldsmobile Tornado and a faded red 1977 Saab 99gl. Yes, 1977, the year before Saabs came with a turbo.

I've had a few real turds too. I think the 82 Ford Courier was probably the worst though. I can't complain about its reliability as it got me all over the intermountain west and then crossed the country to NY and was driven around here for another three years.
The door cards were removed because you needed to pull the rod to open the doors, the windows were opened with a vise grip and there really was no need to use the clutch to shift. The heat didn't work usually and the under dash vents wouldn't close so there were times it was a bit chilly in the cab. I loved that thing though and lived in it for two summers in Colorado on Buffalo Pass and around Steamboat Lake in a shell I made for the bed out of 1" angle iron and plywood, it traveled all over out west on Dead tour for two years and it got me skiing at over 15 different areas in the worst possible conditions without ever stranding me except for when the timing belt snapped. That was an easy fix though, it only took about 30 minutes on the side of I70 halfway between Green River and Salinas Utah. A close second was the 72 Chevy Luv I had for a while. The cab was so small that even I, at 5'6", couldn't stretch my legs enough to actually be comfortable. It did leave me stranded once when the throwout bearing carrier melted at 5:30 on a Friday in Ontario Oregon but we managed to find parts for it and had it rolling again by 1pm the next day for about $200 including parts and labor. |

1985 Audi 4000s, it kept destroying fuel pump relays so I had to put a jumper wire in the fuse box and then jump in the car as fast as I could before it flooded and wouldn't start. Then the hood latch cable broke so I had to reach through the grill and yank on 2 pieces of wire to open the hood. I eventually put the fuel pump on a toggle switch like a race car. Only good thing about it was it got 30mpg and like 450 miles to a tank of gas.

96? Mazda 626
Let me start by saying it was at the same time the best car I ever owned. Once it got old and wasn't worth much I donated it to the cause ad drove it into the ground for sheer enjoyment. Sold it for junk (about $300 less than I could have made) well worth it. Here's the video of me driving a 96 Mazda 626 the only way I know how to. http://vimeo.com/m/30854675 PS I'm on my phone so lets hope this link works |
