Default Intake manifold from JDM EJ20 on to EJ25

I posted this in the Newbie/FAQ section, but was told to post here too...so, I have a few q's for you guys. I just picked up a 2000 JDM EJ20 turbo long block + 5 speed trans. I currently have a 2004 EJ25 turbo (from a Forester) short block that I will be using for the car. The intake mani from the EJ20 has the same bolt pattern as the EJ25 but the fuel injectors and a few other things are giving me problems when fitting it. I took some pics. This is the ej20 intake mani on the ej25 block.

So I rotated the injectors 180* along with the metal cover and it gave me a little more room to work with.

But it still hits and won't fit.

For anyone who has done this, how did you get it to fit?

Thanks everyone!

We havent decided on the harness. Probably from an 04 Forester (plus the ECU) because that's what the 2.5L block came out of (factory turbo'd) We are using the EJ25. We only got the EJ20 for misc parts and the transmission.

Keep the Forester's intake manifold. Don't use the JDM one you have.

The Forester doesn't have an intake. We got the Ej25 short block and found a good deal on an EJ20 with the trans so we picked it up. We are trying to get the EJ20 mani to fit. The bolt holes line up, but as you can see there are a few things in the way of getting it to seat properly.

Is this a '04 FXT? What car is this setup going into?

Yes, 2004. It will be going in an exoskeleton car. Here's a pic.

Pic of motor (EJ25)

We are considering using only the trans and selling the long block JDM EJ20 (in great shape, just had a leakdown test done on it) if we can't get the parts to work. Let me know what you think. Thanks for the help guys!

Keep us posted on the car. It'll be a blast when it's finished.

I'm looking forward to seeing another of Pook's TR42s on the road.

You mean to say you have a '04 FXT longblock. If you plan on using a '04 FXT ecu/harness, you should plan on using ths intake manifold that comes with it. You could even use a '06+ WRX intake manifold or the '08+ plastic. Run top feed injectors with the correct tgv risers. One big reason is the '04 FXT is drive by wire throttle body and you also have AVCS heads.

Could you possibly link me to one that's being sold that will fit? I can't seem to find any for sale. We would prefer drive by cable, not wire

Thanks Fuji.

I don't have any leads at the moment. Let me see what we have at the shop. Car-part.com is also a good source.

If you prefer cable throttle, i recommend getting a harness from a '02-05 WRX. It won't be able to control the AVCS but you can run WRX intake cam gears or modify your AVCS gears so you can get since low end back. The 2.5L AVCS engine makes good torque with the AVCS system. It would be nice if you kept it. You also need the ecu for the harness as well. In a sense, harness/ecu/intake manifold and it's sensors should go together.
