I agree, I hated the press photos. But these shots make is look half decent.

it's just so ordinary looking. It might as well be a toyota, a lexus, a bmw, or any other car that blends in with the background.

Oh,and it definitely needs a set of Rotas. The rims on there are (yawn) something i'd expect on a 4 door sedan, not on a World Rally Xover type vehicle.

I can spot my WRX from 500 feet away in the parking lot. For this one, i'd need one of those tennis balls on the antenna.

It's a yawner.

No matter how you dress it, or give it wide fenders, this thing will not look right on a WRC course.

I understand that Subaru might be able to get more cars sold if it looks like a cross between an IS300 and a Camry, but I just don't feel like they considered the Rally'ing at all...

That's because they will rally the hatchback, not the sedan.

Indeed, both styles are quite yawners. Where has all the quirkiness gone?

I can understand why they would "camry-ize" it....but it doesn't mean we have to like it.

I like the hood scoop, but thats about it...so far.

PS. I am REALLY tired of the Lexus IS, new G35 and then the G37, BMW 3 and now this...design.

If that's what the market is calling for so be it, I guess I/we are not in the market?! I dig retro, and fat fenders!

50 bucks says the new Impreza has the exact same exhaust as the legacy, y split at the rear axel that is. I am really surprised subaru decided to place two cars in the exact same market. At least with the old impreza it was a smaller more sporty fun car. but now the new impreza and the current legacy are going to be competing against each other. Why would Subaru do that??

I must say the Impreza sedan isn't half bad, mainly because its basically a legacy, take off the front grille and it would be ok, nothing special but ok. But the hatch back is pure ugly in my mind, it should have been two doors and smaller and more sporty

i think its going the way of the first gen legacy's, especially with the small window infront of the c-pillar. maybe in a few years the legacy will be the size of a cadillac. the impreza the size of the current legacy. subaru will be forced to build a new small car; like honda did with the fit.

unrelated: whos going to be the first to try to stuff the new 3.6 into the new impreza?

One is a sporty compact and one is a midsize sedan. Sharing a chassis /= same market/class of car or same car. The Impreza and Forrester have shared the same chassis for years. Obviously different vehicle and different markets.

that is true but the forester and the impreza didn't also look a like. that's the problem here...they are making the legacy and impreza share the same chassis not to mention they have similar looks (the sedans that is) so what exactly seperates them? the both also have similar turbo models (legacy vs. 2.5i, LGT vs. WRX) imo i think subaru should have kept them looking completely different even if they did share the same chassis...

and im sad the new H6 3.6 only makes 253hp haha (the old H6 3.0 made 243hp didn't it? :sigh: )

Guys you do remember that the 09 Legacy will be built off of the Tribeca platform right?

So in 09 the Impreza and Legacy will not be the same size at all just like how the 02-07 Impreza was built off the 04 and older Legacy chassis which was clearly smaller than the 05-08 Legacy.

You're looking at it all wrong (of course more HP would be nice, hell its a freaking SUV it needs a V8 but...)

2007 Tribeca 3.0 245 HP, 215 lb-ft
2008 Tribeca 3.6 256 HP, 247 lb-ft

isnt the tribeca based on the legacy platform? minor tweaks here and there, but its still the same basic chassis.

no the B9 is a longer and wider chassis, that's why it is a bigger vehicle.

What bothers me most about the car are the body pieces that look like after thoughts. The side, front and rear skirts look just slapped on there, just like they do on the Corolla.

Yes, I keep waffling back and forth on whether I like the new design.

I think everyone and their mother agrees that legacy is making a huge mistake with this joke they call a car.

Its hideous and there is no way around it. It is what it is.

I thought the Tribeca was on the legacy platform. I am pretty sure it is, if you look underneath it looks very very similar. They might have extended it a little, but overall I think its the same platform. Maybe they will make a new platform for the Legacy is 2009. I can't really imagine it getting any bigger unless they are going for full size luxury.
