And you can drift it if you don't get crazy with the steering.

I've found that switching off the bitch switch is sufficient for backroads fun. Would a VDC switch right next to the TC switch be more fun? F$$k yes!
But yeah, turn off the tc and go to some grassy field, anf you can do crazy fun donuts with ease.

We found a solution. A real solution. There is a switch under the e-brake lever, that engages the stability control when the handbrake is off, and disables it when the lever is pulled. Obviously, this doesn't solve anything, but if anyone can design a collar offset or something to prop the handbrake lever up slightly, it will keep the stability control off, and I mean completely off. Simple, practical and easy to engineer something for. Unfortunately when the handbrake is pulled up the first retention clip already engages the brakes, but that can probably be avoided with propping the lever up slightly and/or engineering a bypass switch. The information is in these two threads :

First post.

Just thought I'd let people know the new developments people have discovered with respect to the ESC system.

I found that if i pull out the bottom far right 7.5 amp fuse under the dash board... the dash board lights up like a x mass tree...ABS,CHECK ENGINE, CRUISE LIGHT FLASHING, HILL AST OFF, TRAC OFF, STAB LIGHT ON, AND YES IT KILLS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. But if you put the fuze back in the CHECK ENGING LIGHT, CRUISE LIGHT FLASHING, AND STABILITY LIGHT STAYS ON. YOU get steering and abs and hill asst back. the car is drivable. Mine is a 5 speed 2012 impreza premium and in my field i can now get it to go sideways at 50mph in third gear in the snow. At first for just a sec the abs try's to correct you then it just gives up. But once I am done playing i have to flash the computer to re-set check engine light, cruise, and stability control. PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!! It makes me smile now!

Just be aware that pulling the lever to it's first click point will make the rear brakes drag slightly. This is both dangerous in slippery conditions and bad for the car.

You may not even have to do it to a full click. If I just graze the ebrake in my XV, the bake light lights up. We're talking about something less than a 1/2cm of pull, but well before the 1st click.

I am also interested in this...would be awesome to find a way around the stability control for more reasons than just wanting to do a few donuts in the parking lot

Are the guys who have tried this REALLY sure it works? I can't find a link between the parking brake and the VDC system.

Yeah well I assume both are linked to the computer where everything communicates. A few people have tested this (check the thread I posted) and stated that it does in fact work. I can't attest to this myself (yet), but at this point it does appear to work.

This conflicts with two previous reports suggesting it does work. Things are getting strange here.

I propped the lever up below first click. Brake light on. Found a snow covered gravel lot, attempted figure 8s, denied. I tried swerving aggressively enough that my friend who is a better driver and not easily scared had to grab the oh **** handle. Upon losing traction you could hear the abs going trying to straighten the car. We both saw the brake light on with the low traction light flashing as we heard abs working, attempted to continue for a few seconds after we saw both lights (and the low traction one flashing) but it was hopeless. tucked tail and drove home.

I know that if you don't turn the wheel vdc will not limit your fun, verified again before attempting this.

I think the only way to do this is trick the computer into not seeing the steering input

edit:
i reread the post where someone said this worked (only saw 1 confirmation btw) and it sounds like they have a CVT and when sliding around the corners i bet they weren't on the gas. as soon as you let off the gas, VDC stops trying to ruin your life too.

i tried it one more time in the offchance somehow I had re-enabled the button (i hadn't) but it still performed the same. I tried to video it but w/o a mount as soon as VDC kicks in i get tossed to the side and therefore the lights move out of frame. sorry but Rememo has it correct, there is no correlation between VDC and the parking brake and the wiring diagrams show there isn't.

we need a way to trick the computer into not seeing one of the inputs, i don't think it matters which because it seems that if you don't turn the wheel it won't kick in, if you let off the gas it quits, etc.

Hm, probably not an option, because electric power steering.

right. i haven't looked at the steering wiring diagram, but after the sensors, etc, i believe it goes to the VDC box and not through it to the electric assist. so there may be someway to trick it into seeing whatever value (resistor for this?) is "neutral"

or maybe speed sensor, as it doesn't kick it at very slow speeds?

either way there seems to be a lot of ways that it will cancel or not kick in (steering, throttle, speed all for sure) and it seems if one of those drops out of the equation, so does VDC.

i just read through the entire chapter in the service manual about VDC

it uses a lot of inputs, I'm not sure if it could be fooled, and if it can it will probably set a code.

the subaru scan tool looks like it can access a lot of information, i wonder if there is a way to disable it? i didn't see it mentioned, but that doesn't mean it can't be done.

I'm going to be making a switch, maybe tomorrow. I have confirmed that completing the circuit when the factory e-brake switch is pressed down and opening the circuit (e-brake off) will engage the the light on the dash. If that makes any sense???....

So just tap in to the single wire going to the switch factory switch and hook it up to a SPST push button or toggle switch then ground the switch...boom e-brake light on dash comes on while the e-brake is all the way down and disengaged.

Why waste your time, 2 confirmed reports it doesn't do anything for vdc on/off

Late to the party, but to put in my experiences with VDC, even with it turned off the display I have on the car says the VDC was activated anytime it senses any sort of rotation, so I'm pretty sure its still on.

That's because even though the Subaru manual calls it a VDC switch, it's really not! It's more of a traction control switch because when turned off, it allows for wheel slippage or spinning without cutting throttle.

Anyone else made any progress with this? Maybe a way to reprogram it to an off position?
