State of Enginuity address
[b]The site is up. Enjoy. Enginuity is now called RomRaider. http://www.romraider.com (/Status)
Enginuity is not dead. Unfortunately (moreso for me than anyone else), it looks like a name change is probably going to be the best option to get it back online. I won't get in to the details right now and ask that anyone I've discussed them with keep it to themselves for now, but in order to get the site back up ASAP this looks like the way to go. That's where you come in. I don't know what to call it. teacups suggests JarTune as a play on my name and the Java archive that is Enginuity (enginuity.jar), and right now that's our best option. But I'd like more ideas. Shoot. For anyone interested, I'll tell you what I've been up to and what the holdup has been. Basically, I've been too busy and too stubborn to change the name and all of the references to it, holding out for getting the site back up as is. While that still could happen, I'm tired of waiting and I finally have the ability to do what's required for the name change. I've been without a computer at home other than my laptop, which I refuse to spend much time on because it's a slow, miserable experience. Anyway. I got out of the Air Force in October and moved home to Iowa to start a new job. Couldn't be happier. But I've been very busy at my new job, my wife and I were shopping for a new house and trying to sell our old one, while living in my parents basement. Now, we've got the house (with the 3 stall garage I've always wanted), we're moved in, my desktop computer is finally set up and I'm ready to go. Still a whole lot going on at work but I have a few evenings a week now. Lets make Enginuity (or whatever it's called) cool again. Last edited by qoncept; 02-05-2008 at 07:58 PM. |

Why ask people for name suggestions without saying why it needs a new name? I'm guessing it is over copyright IP on the name and there was a lawsuit tossed around, and if that is the case, having people give suggestions for a new name is just as bad. If that IS the reason, state it, and people can avoid anything near the issue.
Clean, simple generic, state the purpose of the program. My vote is for SubyTuner. |

Long time no see Q, its good to have you back. I really dont have a pref. on a name - its all about function for me. It can be JarTune or whatever..
BTW - Congrats on the house - I remember how pumped I was when I got my 3 car garage! Last edited by TheShad0w; 01-28-2008 at 02:44 PM. |

Glad to hear from you. JarTune is a terrible sounding name. =P But, if it stuck I'm sure nobody will really care.

It should be noted that is has to be a name that is not being used by another company or project. Do a google search on any suggestions that you are going to make. For example, something like EcuTune or RomTune wouldn't work because they have already been widely used.

How about the basis of what it does. It's a software platform that decodes rom's based on XML structure.
xmlTune, xmlTuner, XML.Tune, XML.Tuner, XML.ECU, xml.ecu.Tuner Good to hear that you are back and look forward to the recovery and development of your software! |

I'd watch out with the 'gnu' stuff, especially since the program formerly known as Enginuity is not associated with the GNU project.

Since it is going to be integrated with ECUFlash, IMHO, it should have ECU in the name at least.

UROM or ECUWORX |

In my opinion, the best name would have the following attributes:
1. the name should be easy for someone to remember/spell (i.e. only one possible spelling). Think if you told someone the name over the phone, would you have to spell it out for them so they would go to the correct URL? Enginuity wasn't the greatest in this regard, but I've seen worse. 2. should convey what the software does, even if generally. 3. should have no similarity to any other name used by any other business or project even if it is in an unrelated industry. For example, EcuFlash is an excellent name. There's only one way to spell it. It is uncomplicated and easy to remember. It is very descriptive. |

I nominate EFKAE (editor formerly known as Enginuity). It's easy to pronounce, too.

PeoplesTuner?
FreeECU? (or FreeCU) Note that I got a couple of google hits on this but I can't for the life of me tell if they're referring to another program or something to do with Puegots, google it and see. LibreTune? It should have something to do with the fact that the most important thing about the product is that it puts the power in the hands of the users. |

I'd stay away from anything with gnu in it. It's both a popular snowboard company and an OS. People will likely get confused.
I do like the idea of xmlTuner or similar. |
