sti oem downpipe VS. wrx oem downpipe
Is there any difference between an 04-05 sti oem downpipe and a 04-05 wrx oem downpipe. Does the sti breath better or is it the same setup?

An 04 MT WRX downpipe is part #44102FE040
04 Sti downpipe is part # 44102FE170 and more pricey. IMHO, if they were exactly the same they would probably have the same part # Richard |

The downpipes are different. The STi one is slightly bigger by 1/4" or so, but the STi one has a bigger catalytic convertor than the WRX, so any gains/losses are probably a wash.

the sti has LEV status UNa?
And also, the UP cat is mainly for startup Conditions, the Main cat is for normal driving, i don't see how the two wash. |

also, the bracket that mounts to the tranny is different. the sti downpipe has a shorter bracket that won't line up the wrx. i suspect it is because the sti tranny is larger.

As for the rest of the system. 3rd cat = Same Res pipe= same 2.38"ID. Res section is about 2-3" longer on Sti vs. my 03. Mufflers, Sti is 2.38" ID pipe all the way, 03 WRX starts at 2.38" ID at the flange but necks down to 2.12"ID right after. These minor differences in the res and muffler pipes could be do to just the year and not the model. |

I don't think you are going to gain much of anything going from the stock WRX DP to the stock STi DP with all things being the same. Both have a big cat that is the biggest restriction. For power increase I would go with a aftermarket DP without a cat or if must have a cat then get one with a high-flow cat. |
