For what it's worth, I didn't mean for that post to sound depressing and wasn't looking for attention. I'm not saying anyone thought that, however after reading it again, it felt like that to me. Anyway, I have very little experience of management experience. But yeah, I should try that. I'm in the local Walmart quite often, and I see the same asst. mngr / mngr's everytime. |

Job Series: Computer Scientist 1550
Official Title: VoIP Administrator (for a site of ~5,900 users, 13,200 devices, only 2 of us) Other unofficial Job duties: Server/Linux Admin, Routing/Switching/Firewalls/NAC/Cabling, Secure Phone's, Project manager, VoIP Engineer of various sorts on various projects My job is getting so out of hand the last 3 months that I'm getting my resume up to date and hopefully going private sector soon. Way too much stress to have to do literally 8-10 peoples jobs and give weekly reporting on about 15 different projects (not exaggerating). The aforementioned "duties" aren't my job whatsoever but since I've learned how to do them people lean on me to further the projects along. Why I ever took a federal gov't job as my first career job is beyond me. At least as a contractor you can always say "not within the scope of my contract". I should begin drooling at my desk and aimlessly wander the hallways/parking lot alike 95% of the other civilians here then maybe I won't get tasked with anything requiring responsibility. /endrant |

Thanks! It's really hard work and I wish it could be fun like it used to be. Nowadays since producers and directors have this immense power to warp reality, they have become a royal pita with last minute changes on shorter time schedules. |

If you aren't doing that already, it's worth a shot. Also, go to a temp agency. They do know of permanent positions. You can also get some experience in other fields, leading to something permanent, that you wouldn't get by applying on your own. It's tough out there. I've resorted to bar tending and serving when I'm desperate. I'm not discounting either of those positions, F&B just isn't the path for me. However, cash in hand every night can come in handy. Good luck, something will develop. Last edited by 575rider; 04-08-2016 at 02:15 AM. |
