STX for 2013?

Default 08' and newer clutch issues.

Per some of the the Clutch issues:

does anyone think that the Hill-assist feature could be prematurely wearing 08' and newer WRX'es ?

If I had to make an uneducated, seat of the pants guess, I would say it may be a factor.

When I am parked nose down an incline I definitely have to goose the gas a bit to get past the hill assist to reverse out of a parking place, or rock it a bit until it goes off. If I am on a normal incline tail down, it can cause some slipping if it's a sharp incline. That's then mixed with it's factory gutless fuel delivery at take off causing bogging requiring more revs than It feels like you should have to use. I've been told that the Access port settings for stage 1 eliminate a good bit of that.

I've been driving manual's since I started driving nearly 25 years ago and feel like I'm pretty decent at it, but I have definitely had some of my clutch smell incidents while getting past the hill assist on the clutch that started going at 19k and then finally at 33-36k. That said, I think there were other issues as since the replacement, (by the dealer for $200 with some goosing from SOA, wasn't a prolonged battle. I'd buy another car from them. Just not a demo.), the shifting has been comparatively, a joy.

Just wondering.

Name: hondafan

Make: 2008 Subarau Impreza WRX STi hatchback

Mileage:18,500

Time Out Of Use: 1 Day (and will be more)

Problem And Likely Cause: Misfires on 3 cylinders, and diminished boost

Modifications:Cobb Catted DP and AccessPort

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): Yes.

Reason Given For Denial: None

Your Story: Car was surging and peaking boost at about 10 PSI.

Report from Subaru Technician:
Test drive to verify concern, max boost seen was 10.8 PSI. A/F corrections were maxed out on both ends of the spectrum at +/- 25%. Misfires were found multiple times on cylinder four. Cleared system memory and drove again. Max boost seen was 17.8 PSI (Note the vehicle was not in Sport Sharp Mode, indicating a tune has been installed on the vehicle), A/F Corrections were still maxing out and misfires were now present on cylinders 1,2, and 4, multiple times on each. Signs point towards either bad fuel (contamination or improper octane rating), or a faulty tune. Advised customer to try a fuel system cleaner and running at least 2 tanks of premium fuel. If the concern does not change, it will be necessary to remove the tune and all aftermarket "Power Adders" and attempt to diagnose vehicle under stock conditions.

I'm happy so far with the way I've been treated at my local dealership. I was honest and upfront, leaving all parts on the car that I had already installed, as if I genuinely caused the problem I should take that responsibility, but the nature of this problem makes me believe it's not due to the downpipe being installed with a very modest tune. I have reverted the car back to factory and unmarried the AccessPort and the problem continues (when the map was restored at first there weren't problems, but as the ECU "learns" it gets worse again). I will be returning to the dealership again as the problem is still not resolved. They explained that they just couldn't diagnose it further unless all external factors were taken away. I firmly believe that the attitude they've exhibited towards me (good attitude, to be clear) is directly linked to me not trying to raise a stink about anything. I hope that it doesn't turn out to be something linked directly to the downpipe, and that it does turn out to be a bad sensor like the tech suspected when I spoke with him. I've only ever pumped premium (91 is the best I can get in northern UT) and I've been through 4 full tanks since the problem started. When this tank gets a little lower I'll run fuel cleaner through it and give it one last try on a full tank after that and see if the problem is solved.

This is my third Subaru (WRX, WRX, and then STi) and I've been nothing but pleased with both the service I've received and the quality of the car. I hope I don't ever experience some of the things some people on this forum have.

I drive the car as an adult should, although I put my foot into the pedal and actually bring the revs up probably twice a week. My typical shift involves just getting into boost range and then shifting. I do, luckily have receipts for 2 out of the 4 oil changes I've done (I know that's not a perfect record, but it's better than nothing), and I really am keeping my fingers crossed that this turns out well. I trust that my dealership will get me taken care of and I will continue to patronize them. I'll update this when I know what's happened.

How about more information? Is your car still under warranty? What happened?

Call SOA themselves. If SOA is instructing the dealership to do a teardown, then SOA will and is supposed to pay for the teardown.

The Caveat to that is this, if it is not covered, then you come get the car in pieces. They do NOT put it back together. In many cases they have to tear it down to see exactly what failed and how.

anyone have some recommendation for me? I took my 08 in for its service and it also had a slipping clutch. they tore it down and said it was worn with no cause found. i asked if it was covered under my 3yr/36k and repeatedly said clutch isn't covered. I called SOA and they said it is. they called the dealer for a "cause", and told me there was no cause found but I was "outside the 3yr/36". come again? please check your records. she fumbled and told me sorry her mistake and that she will have to look into it more. They now want to tear it down AGAIN to further investigate. am i screwed or what? the original tear down had no cause. i feel like im getting the run around. should I go aftermarket if they deny? far too many 08+ clutches going out at 30k

How many miles are on the car?
Also you need to find your date if service when the warranty began. Hopefully it is AFTER Feb 2008.

Clutches are covered by the 3/36k "wear item" warranty. If they tore it down to check it and found that it is indeed worn, then there is no reason to do it again unless SOA is making them do it.

32k, and yes the car is covered till aug 2011. They tried using the production date on me so I had to correct her.

Soa are requiring ANOTHER tear down which to me sounds like a reason for them to change the reasoning from no cause to abuse. Soa called the dealer and told me there was no cause from the original tear down.

I know SOA will require the dealer to tear it down to check the fly wheel condition and the clutch disk as well. However, why did the dealer tear it down the first time? A slipping clutch is easy and the only time we tore one down is when SOA made us for possible warranty purposes.

So let me get this straight. They 'tore it down' found it to be slipping for no apparent cause and then put it back together still in non-functioning state?!?

Yes. I asked if they will cover it under 36k/3yr and they said absolutely not. Would I like to authorize the 1200 repair? No. So they put the car back together. Am I missing something?

was I wrong for assuming "wear and tear" coverage would cover a "worn" item??

The clutch IS COVERED under the wear item warranty for Subaru. Some service writers can be idiots and do not read their policy and procedure manuals. It is listed in there and in your owners warranty booklet.
Go back and educate them

Every single post you have made on this site is either in this thread or the Warranty section. Infact, this thread and the WWP99 thread only. All of your comments are an innuendo or open bashing against Subaru and you compare them to how Honda or other manufacturers work. No need to be in denial.
