Default Stock '01 RS F&R axles with '06 WRX tranny and rear

Can I do this? I looked at the sticky's and thought yes, but others are telling me no.... Both appear to be R160 rears... Thanks

You just want to keep your axles and switch to the '06 WRX tranny and diff? The answer is yes. You can do that...

You just need the front's to be male axles that go into the '06 tranny. The rears are male axles already. We put '03 WRX axles into '01 RS 4.111. I put '98 RS axles onto VLSD diff. I put '99 L axles into RS VLSD. I counseled a member on putting a WRX VLSD into a '98 RS R160 and used his '98 axles.

not many people play with parts like I do. I do a lot of Frankenstein projects. Subarus are legos!

Thanks for your help. Based on what you are saying, I assume that the stock front axles on an '01 RS are female? So I should be good with the rears, but buy the '06 male fronts... and that should be all I should need (i.e. no hubs, etc..)?
