Infrared Testing Volume 1 *featuring PTP turbo blankets and GRIMMSPEED*
2011 WRX with the grimmspeed heatshield,Cobb catted downpipe, I let the car warm up and idled it for 20 min after operating temperature. The ambient temp outside was 72 F and the car was in the shade when I used the camera. The turbo itself was 352 F, the top of the grimmspeed heat shield was 137 F, and the top of the TMIC was 112 F. I will upload pics when I get a chance.
Now I just recieved in the mail my new PTP turbo blanket, and am very curious to see the differences. I will be updating this thread with all my info when I complete the install. 2011 WRX turbo temp--352 heatshield temp--137 TMIC--112

This should be something also to consider taking the exhaust temps from dp to midpipe with infrared.
Thx for taking the time to do something like this as this can be very useful info. |

Nice work herocrank as this will aid people trying to prevent heat soak. U can clearly see where the heatsoak is on the tmic hence clearly where the turbo is lol.

Edit: also to I noticed when sitting at long lights the throttle is much more responsive do to less or taking longer to heat soak everything. Last edited by trev762; 09-12-2012 at 09:36 PM. |

These are awesome! Looking forward to seeing the results with the PTP blanket. I have a PTP blanket and a GrimmSpeed heat shield on mine. I'd also be interested in seeing how it looks after some hard runs through the gears.

Is there any way you can do the same with a STI intercooler installed, perhaps a buddy's car.

Also, pull your heatshield and apply the gold foil to the inside of the shield. This helps keep radiant heat from transfering through the HS in the first place. Here's the chimney from my old '93 Turbo Leg. (I did the same thing to my specB stock heatshield) |
