Well i finished painting my '06 stockers this week. I ended up doing them gold and they came out pretty good. I'll post some pics once i put them on the car.

I cant decide if i should clear them or not. I dont really want them to be any shinier, but just want them to be as tough as possible because these are going to be my winter wheels. Also would a clear coat make them easier to clean?

I haven't actually powdercoated any, but before I painted mine I looked into it. It would run ~$200 or so... maybe more, maybe less... probably depends on the place. Its a lot of prep work (sandblasting and such). IMO it wasn't worth it.... way cheaper to do it yourself with paint - although powdercoating probably holds up better.

I also was a bit hesitant to powdercoat with all the conflicting information out there flying around about whether it is safe to do it or not (in terms of wheel strength). I didn't want to take any chances, so I just painted them

Thanks By the way, great looking rims around here!

My painted wheels are so easy to clean now. Most likely because it's fresh paint and fresh clear coat so it's still smoother than your OEM stock wheels. I have no problems with brake dust or anything. I didn't wash the car for a couple of weeks and my wheels were a dark bronze from all the brake dust and I was a little worried. Came right off with soapy water and a sponge.

I definitely recommend clear coating your wheels. If you don't want it glossy... don't get a glossy clear coat lol It helps protect the paint from chipping and dirt/brake dust.

these are really good gold color, I see alot of people try to go for the gold color and come out with a bronzeish/copper looking.

What would I need all materials and everything to get this type of gold?

Smile RBP & P/C White...What do you think?

Had seen this color combo before and had to give it a try with some abused 17's. I think I may do the same to my stock RS 5-spokes for Auto-X.

What do you think?

With clear coat, they should come out looking very close to the cap color in the pic above.

Will post pics when done.

Thanks for this picture. I didn't see this response earlier.

that looks really good. hmmmm, Rota Subzeros or LGT wheels... that picture definitely makes the lgt wheels look aftermarket to me vs. the WRX wheels just looking like painted wheels.

Thanks to the fellow New Yorker. It has been about 15 years now but I grew up in Peekskill (Now referred to as Town of Cortlandt) and went to Hen Hud for a couple of years. Oh so long ago!

They are almost done...

I had a bad experience with the clearcoat and had to redo two wheels... It rained all last week and has been < 60F when I get home from work, so it's been too cold to paint.

If all else fails, I've got the wood furnace hooked up in the garage now, so I can heat up the garage and finish painting, but that won't be till at least this weekend.
