Mine wasn't eligible It'll show 40%, then I take a photo, and it shuts down on me. If I let it sit, for about 5 minutes, it will turn back on and be at 35%. Bull**** apple batteries

Either way I'm coming up on an upgrade to a 6 or some Android phone. My 5 is working decent (battery sucks but not under the replacement) but the back anodizing is marred/scratched a bit. Not sure how this happened while in a case but here we are.

I have AppleCare+, so I could smash it and get a replacement for $50. Is it worth this before upgrading and selling this guy?

Mine isn't eligible for the replacement. Though I haven't been unhappy with the battery... It tends to only run out when the screen is on full brightness.

Of course, they do this just before the 6 is to be announced/released.

At least the program runs till March 1, 2015, so I have time to decide when to do it - or use it as a selling point when selling it.
yea mines eligible too, need to take it in asap as this battery sucks. they told me they dont send it it in, they just fix it at apple. phone dude told me 15min turn around normally

My battery sucks a lot and I'm sure it's eligible for replacement, but at this moment I'm just waiting for the 6 to come and then I'll either just pay someone to replace it or do it myself. Tired of being a slave to a charger or an external battery.

Ugh, I thought they would just swap you with a new phone like they usually do. Why do they bother asking you to back up to iCloud and erase the phone for then?

Both 5'a at my house aren't eligible and we got these within a month of the release. Hoping the 6 comes out soon!

I was thinking of getting the 5S when the 6 comes out for super cheap but the main reason for switching from my 4S is because battery life sucks. You guys have me rethinking that!

The current battery replacement problem is for the 5, and not the 5S? What's to say the iPhone 6 will end up with some battery problems too?

I'm not sure if I'll get the 6, or jump to either brand completely. It just seems to me that phones have gotten so damn powerful that hardware specs are a wash. Even camera's are pretty darn good across the board (sure, some are much better, but all of them are pretty good). So I suppose it comes down to software and ecosystem (and brand loyalty). My current 5 is fast enough for my meager needs, and so maybe I'll wait another generation.

FWIW, Ive never had any complaints about my 4S battery life.....until the whole port crapped out 2 days ago

I took one of the upgrades from our business phones and bought a Galaxy S5. I swore I would never go back to Android after a brief experience with it, but Ive talked to numerous Iphone(4, 4s, and 5s) users who have recently switched to the S5 and have been won over by it. It should be in the mail today so I'm eager to play with it.

I bet there's a ****-ton of lint in the 30-pin slot (and headphone port too).

nope, I blew it out. I think a spark or something either plugging it in or unplugging caused it, because part of the port is black.

So who's going to get the iP6 thread rolling so we can get the 3-4 pages of the Android derps trolling the thread over with?

So...iPhone 5 is **** now with this update. Freezing randomly. Swiftkey doesn't work.

Correction. Swiftkey works *sometimes* and it won't type sometimes.

I had Swiftkey for a day, went back to the Apple keyboard. Predictive text seemed to be roughly the same and I didn't like the swipe to type feature as much as I remembered from my Android days. Played around with the 4.7 inch iPhone 6 today and it was pretty nice. I'd like to see the 6 plus, but no one had one.

I did the battery replacement on my 5 (they did replace the battery vs giving out a new phone) which took ~4 hour cuz of high volume. Then I found out my LTE died. When I went back the next day to complain, I had to book another genius bar appt before they would look into it...WTF? So I did, but they were booked solid for a week. Today, after about 6 days of 3G only, my LTE came back. Not sure what the hell happened, but I'm just glad I don't have to go through the genius bar BS.

Necro-bump.
I have an old 5 that I am thinking would be good for my 12 year old to use, but I don't want to add her to my wife's Verizon plan because that **** is expensive for a kid. Is there a pay by the month plan somewhere that is cheap for a old cdma phone?

The Verizon iPhone 5 is unlocked for GSM, so you can get a cheap prepaid plan SIM (say like AT&T pre-paid) and set it up with that. It will be stuck on 4G HSPA+ and have no LTE coverage, though.

I have no clue on CDMA carriers.

I have a 5c that I had from Verizon. It has iOS 10.1.

I put in a Google Fi data only SIM. I want to use it as a hotspot, but I can't tether it - it tells me to contact T-Mobile since Fi is conmectiong to them I suppose. What is the best tool for jailbreaking 10.0 I don't think there's one out now.

I can get an older iOS and jailbreak that right?
