downside? not many Ive heard other than the usual - usually the stickier the tire, the shorter lived it is, usually. Great tire though but expensive as fcuk for a street tire...

Best Summer Tire I've had on my wrx yet. I usually keep them around 40psi, but I drove them around at 20psi the day I put them on. Sick cornering tire. These things grip. I have Eagle F1GS-D3's on my 350Z and would rate them a close second. With the Eagles you sacrifice some cornering for some wet traction ability.

Right now on Tirerack in 225/50r16 the RE01R's are $130 compared to $153 for the F1GS-D3's.

I drove a set of these all last season on my 06 STi STU Autox car. I loved them so much I just bought a new set last week. It was a hard decision between these and giving the new Dunlops a try though.

They have at least one drawback. When taking a left turn too quick, I bounced my wife's head off the passenger window. She didn't appreciate that. Although it wasn't as bad as the time I gave her whiplash when I shifted into second with a little too much enthusiasm...

Also, I blame my spun bearing on my RE01R's. My oil was to the full mark and I had no det, but when I took a cloverleaf at high speed and came out at high RPM, my engine was tapping 3 miles later. Another 3 miles and it was knocking. All the evidence points to sucking the oil pan dry due to high G's combined with shifting at 7100rpm.

Default re01-r

The only complaint I have about them is that they are just as bad as the stock re070 in the snow. Other than that they have been far superior in every way. I also went up to a 245/45/17. They still grip like hell but ride much smoother and are more quiet.

Not sure how you can really complain about a summer performance tire not performing well in snow.

That's like me saying I hate wearing winter caps because they're hot as hell in the summer. Not really made for what you're asking.

The Dunlop is a better competition tire.. however, it may not be for you.. because of it's side-wall is siffer ... and I feel (from experience with both) that the Bridgestone Wears better.

For the 225/45-17 size, I thought the OEM RE070 were stickier and better for performance than the RE01-R. They also seemed to last longer.

RE01-R's ride better though.

Default hope they are good.

Nice tires. I just bought these tires for our shop car. We give them to customers all the time. I'm hoping they grip great.

you recommend tires to customers while not knowing anything about them other than the manufacturer supplied sales literature

We have them in 255/35-18 in the daily driver (05 STi)

...but next time we're just gonna get Falken Azenis.. the RE01Rs are no better than the Falkens, and the Falkens are cheaper.

Wrong. The RE-01R is proven a better performer.

Azeni's far from suck.

This thread has a ton of mis-information.

RE-01R's are great summer/performance tire that wear like butter. I think they are excellent in the rain, but I am sure that will fad with wear.

ive run them for almost a year now and still think they are great. the wear on them is from the first track session i had when i was scrubbing every turn.... but other then that they are great. my dad tried the RE050 PP and thought they were ok, but hes running the drizza's now and thought they were much better then the RE050's. ill prolly get a set of the drizza's when its time to see how they compare.

the folks running in competitive driving events in the SCCA, NASA, BMW CCA, etc would greatly disagree with that statement ... but, for daily driving you rarely need the amount of mechanical grip tires like the RE01R have

the Falkens are less expensive as you mentioned
