Cheap EJ25 Build
I know any build isn't "cheap" per se, but what all could you do to beef up the engine with $2000? Excluding turbos, due to baaaad insurance, and minor bolt ons like CAI's. Just throwing it out there, please don't reply "just save your money and spend more on it later", because even if I did have the money, I would use it towards college. I would be doing the build, not a mechanic so that saves some money (right?)
Thanks, Denny

If your are not going to turbo it, nothing needs to be "beefed" up.

but wouldnt you make more horsepower with new cams, crank, pistons, etc? Or would you have to machine the cylinders and get oversized pistons to make power. How can I get more power with 2000 bucks w/o a turbo?

i myself have a 2.5 rs, i have minor bolt ons, exhaust, short ram intake, and a lightened pulley, and wondering what else i can do keeping it n/a. Also i have a question that someone with some extended knowledge in subarus could answer. I was wondering if you could put a block from one of the subaru suv's or the legacy into a impreza to make it a 3.0l or higher, just like how they do with some civics they put the b20 (crv) block into it to make it a 2.0l. anyway could this be done to make give the impreza more potential to be a fast n/a car. and please save your time if you are just going to give me a rough time for wanting a n/a subaru. thanks

You can make much more (but not huge) with cams, intake exhaust, and so forth, but you asked about "beefing up".
Look/search in the NA section because thats where the answers lie.... Don't forget a piggy back to do some tuning with those mods! |

Thank you reddevil, you answered my question correctly in the first reply, I just misworded it, sorry. I like Foxz question about putting a different block on it, so if anybody knows about that, that would be cool. And what do you mean by a much more (but not huge) power increase? I don't want a subie with 400hp if thats what you mean by 'huge'. Thanks again reddevil, I will try searching through that messy NA section to find more out about stuff besides Cai's and exhausts.
Thanks, Denny |

haha yeah i see what your saying but thanks alot, that gives me a bit clearer idea of what to do. but one more question, if i did do put a block in from one of the other subarus they wouldnt be geared for acceleration i would imagine so would that just require a different ecu or transmission.... sorry if i just sound stupid im a bit new into the whole mod world.

But this is pretty advanced stuff when it comes to modding. Certainly it would be a massive task to do this kind of mod first. Try some bolt ons first. It's a lot easier to do and a heck of a lot cheaper. |
