Default spilled oil in engine bay

a fair amount of oil spilled in my engine bay today, its all in the general area of the oil cap. hit the radiator fans pretty good, drenched some exhaust heat sheilds, its a big mess. i wiped up what i could, but is it safe to say its extremely dangerous to drive like this?

You should be fine. I dont think you have to worry about your car bursting into a big flame or anything like that. When the weather is nice in your area you may want to consider using simple green in your engine bay and pressure washing it. I do this once a year to my car. Just make sure to cover your alternator/air filter/etc. Simple green+pressure washington the engine bay makes it look like a brand new car.

Yeah +1 for washing it. I do it almost monthly due to road conditions and dust/construction.

You don't even need to cover your alternator, intake, battery just be smart about it, and avoid wetting the areas around your plugs for too long.

The smell of simple green without it evaporating is bad enough. Stuff smells like some kind of toxic waste cleaner!!!!

Hit the spill with a little brake cleaner and that should clean off a majority of it instantly.

grey, or is it gray?

It's safe, but you will smell it burning off. Also, I rather like the smell of simple green.

CRC engine degreaser works great. Any Pepboys or Advance Auto Parts should have it.
