Both me and tenaciousZ were curious about the connection as well (we also believed another module may be necessary, but we're not sure).

As I suggested to them, you can definitely check any Subaru OEM parts site and compare the heating and cooling parts between the limited and base (auto climate vs manual controls), and see which parts are different between both.

I checked the manual as well as parts stores online, this is what I found:

I can't seem to find anything about the swapability between the manual and ATC models. I would assume that the ATC cable is present on all models just in terms of cost saving across the lines.

Is there anyone out there who's upgraded their stereo with a non-Limited model and can shed light if the connector is present but not hooked up?

Edit: looking at this page, it seems like theres a lot more than just swapping the consoles out. I probably wouldn't have done this anyways, but was cool to think about i guess

In other cars that I have had, there are several other parts related to the automatic climate control beyond the dial on the front. I actually prefer the manual control. Less things to break, and if it does break, less cost to fix.

exactly

if you really wanted the auto controls, should have just bought the Limited, it would cost much less overall

Not if you only have the base now, the limited wouldn't be cheaper then installing it all yourself :P

Only if you don't count your labor as costing anything! I don't know about you but my time is worth something! Besides that the limited comes with a lot more than just auto controls that's why the price is way higher.

I would have gotten limited if it didn't come with leather

And the HID headlights and the multifunction display and the Pioneer HU and the LED turn signals on the mirrors. I don't mind the auto climate control but I don't need it and only use it about half the time.

Canadian model. The correct response when I point out the differences is to call a douchebag.

Yea I've come across other climate control swaps that lend towards the conclusion that it isn't worth the effort since it appears to be more than just a hundred dollar junkyard part swap.. meh. thanks to everyone who also looked into the idea. Cheers!

I would have gotten a Limited if it could have been purchased with a manual tranny.

I didn't know you could get a Limited with a manual in the US, that really sucks and makes no sense to me since it seems like a very high percentage of Impreza drivers prefer them.

There is already a video of that setup either early in this thread or the other 2012 impreza thread. Good luck finding it.

I avoid mods that reduce my visibility in the name of style, so that would be "no" for me.

I'm with you sgoldste01--I can't help but shake my head when someone wants to reduce the effectiveness of a safety device. Here I am searching all over and patiently waiting for LED tail lights, if we ever get them at all, and other people are wanting to purposely make their tail/brake lights dimmer. Ohhhh, but look how cool I look with my tinted lights!!! SMDH
